We have been established for over a decade and have developed a reputation for high quality theatre worthy of the professional stage. We perform three plays a year at The University of Sheffield’s Drama Studio, a renowned intimate theatre venue. Our members are encouraged to give creative input at all stages of production including script writing, set design, stage management, directing and acting. We encourage new people to join The Company and always welcome new talent. There are many roles within The Company, from backstage to directing. Anyone is welcome to attend auditions for an acting part in one of our productions. You do not need any previous experience of acting, but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential. All members of The Company are expected to help out with productions in ways other than acting. We are an amateur group and we do everything ourselves, so we need everyone to muck in. The Hope Theatre Group was founded in 2000 by individual members of three local church congregations, the Parish of Guiseley-with-Esholt (Church of England), the Church of SS Peter and Paul, Yeadon (Roman Catholic) and Guiseley Methodist Church, but we are not a religious group per se, and it has been our aim from the start to be fully inclusive, and we welcome as members people of all faiths and of none, and of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientation. Our name comes from Hope Street, the Liverpool thoroughfare which links that city's two great cathedrals, Anglican and Roman Catholic, and which is often seen as a symbol of eventual Christian unity and a pointer towards a better future, some day, of mutual toleration, respect, understanding, and co-operation not only between the world's different faiths but between all people of good will. We do not present productions in aid of any charity, but we have since our inception always had a purely voluntary collection after our performances, and over the past decade have contributed to several national and local charities, including Christian Aid, CAFOD, Amnesty International, Caring for Life, Arthritis Resaerch, the Child Growth Foundation and St Gemma's Hospice, Leeds. If you would like to be associated with us, as actor, helper, or simply as a member of our Mailing List, please go to the Contact Us page on our website and fill in your details.

The Lomas Hall, Church Street, Stannington, Sheffield, S6 6DB
We started out in the late 1940s as a discussion group and decided to perform a play for the Festival of Britain celebrations in 1951. From the early days we began to perform plays and children's plays in the Methodist Church at Knowle Top up until 1955. We moved to the Lomas Hall in 1955 when it opened and have performed there ever since, extending our repertoire to include a Christmas pantomime which has become an integral part of the Christmas celebrations in Stannington. Our range of productions has stretched from Shakespearian dramas to Ray Cooney farces and recently performing one act plays and variety shows. Though we cannot claim to have produced a Laurence Olivier, some of our members have gone on to make their mark in the professional ranks and have taken their talents to all parts of the UK, America and Canada. By far the majority have enjoyed theatre for theatre's sake. For over 60 years many people, both young and old, have given their support to the Players either by treading the boards or in a backstage/front of house capacity so, although you may not think of yourself as an actor, we are always keen to welcome those who would like to help us paint a backcloth, make scenery or help us with our front of house. Our policy has always been to provide the people of the Stannington area with quality theatre at an affordable price. In these difficult times of high costs we are determined to continue to do this and to help local charities through our productions and donations. We use The Lomas Hall to produce two plays, one in April and one in September and a Pantomime play in December.

Thurgoland Thespians was founded in 1983 to produce pantomimes in the Village Hall and have done so on each year since with other occassional evenings. Since the beginning there have always been children and adults involved in the productions. Facilities are limited, funds are scarce, but the Village Pantomime is looked forward to and is well supported, both from within the village and from elsewhere. Producers, actors, singers, backstage crew- all come and go, but the backbone is still there with 'originals' staying the course. Pantomimes are pure tradition with slapstick, music, dance, men dressed as women, girls dressed as boys, and, most important of all, audience participation. Contact via our website or social media
