Scarborough, North YorkshireFor over eight decades, SMTC has been at the heart of Scarborough’s cultural and community life....It started in 1927, when Scarborough Philharmonic Society disbanded, leaving a gap in the town's entertainment provision, which Sidney Carter (the Philharmonic\’s secretary) filled by persuading the town\’s leading businessmen to back a newly formed Scarborough Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (the \‘Dramatic\’ was dropped in the 1930s). People ?ocked to support the new society, and within a month, 200 local people had joined. Since the 1990s, the society (with a greatly reduced but still enthusiastic and loyal core membership of some 30 local people) has staged its annual Easter musical at the 300-seat YMCA Theatre, and in 2004 the society renamed itself Scarborough Musical Theatre Company. We are always on the look out for new members, so if you would like to sing, dance, or act and enjoy musical theatre it does not matter if you have no experience and have never appeared on stage before you will be most welcome to join us. Perhaps you would like to get involved helping with the multitude of other roles backstage that go into putting on a show. We need¨ scenery makers and movers¨ costume organisers, makers and dressers ¨ lighting and sound staff, makeup artists, prompters ¨ programme sellers, ticket desk helpers, refreshment staff, front of house staff. There are no auditions or age barrier for new members we welcome young and old and young people are especialy welcome. So if you enjoy music and singing with like minded friendly people come along. If you're interested in joining the society please drop us an email using our contact form and we will confirm details of the next meeting and open auditions we have scheduled. |
