The Farnham Shakespeare Company

The company was formed in 1992 by a group of Shakespeare enthusiasts with a vision of presenting an outdoor production of one of the Bard's plays in the Farnham Library Gardens for a week's run each summer. The company also ventured out to present plays at the Redgrave Theatre in Farnham, now lost to us, and the Electric Theatre in Guildford. After a successful production of Much Ado About Nothing in the summer of 2003, the Company faltered until the Autumn of 2006, when a few stalwart members of the FSC showed their determination to see the Company up and running again. The FSC now has an enthusiastic committee of nine who are keen to guide it back to its former prominence on Farnham's theatrical scheme. The re-launched Company staged a production of The Taming of the Shrew at the Bourne Hall in October 2007 to enthusiastic audiences. We have subsequently performed The Merry Wives of Windsor there in 2008 and Much Ado About Nothing in 2009.

The Haslemere Players stage popular musicals at the Haslemere Hall, winning regular awards from the Southern Region of the National Operatic & Dramatic Association for their productions.
Every production is a genuine community effort that brings together the varied aspects of entertaining people. For every person on stage it takes two people off or back stage to make a show happen. So it isn't just about acting, singing and dancing. Oh no. Every show needs costumes, props, scenery, technicians on lighting and sound, an orchestra in the pit, a production team, front of house staff and, of course, an audience. And yet the list still goes on with local press and radio, sponsors and advertisers. It touches and involves nearly every aspect of the community
So if you thought amateur dramatics was all about the Margot Leadbeaters of this world, think again. And get involved - there's a role for everyone.
Performances are held at the Haslemere Hall in Bridge Street, Haslemere GU27 2AS.

The Wintershall Choir

St Cecilia Studio on the Wintershall Estate, Bramley, Surrey, GU5 0LR

Do you enjoy singing? Do you have an inner thespian that’s itching to strut the stage?
Then you might like to consider joining the Wintershall Choir.
You may have heard of the Wintershall Nativity play—it runs every year on the beautiful Wintershall Estate on the outskirts of Bramley. Thousands of people come to see the play each year and the other biblical plays that Wintershall puts on throughout the year, including a Passion play that goes up to Trafalgar Square.
Now for the first year, instead of hiring a choir to sing in the Nativity play we are growing one from scratch.
It is open to those of all faiths and none.
We sing a broad range of music throughout the year, from popular songs with a thoughtful message and fun songs from the musicals, to sacred classical music and gospel, and in the Autumn term we focus on music for the Nativity play.
I would love to welcome enthusiastic singers to join the Wintershall Choir where I provide direction on singing technique. There are opportunities for soloists. I provide recorded rehearsal files as well as scores, so don’t be put off if you can’t read music, but it’s important to be able to sing in harmony. Perhaps you don’t know if you can do this yet—come along and find out!
The choir runs from 6.30pm (for tea, biscuits and chat) with the rehearsal starting at 7pm and ending at 8.30pm. Latecomers are very welcome!

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Wintershall Choir
Thursdays, 6.30pm-8.30pm

Theatre Workshop Coulsdon

Facebook  Twitter

Theatre Workshop Coulsdon (TWC) is an amateur theatre group based in Coulsdon, Surrey who bring 3 productions a year to the masses of Surrey. TWC rose from the ashes of the Coulsdon branch of Croydon Youth Theatre Organisation (CYTO) in 1970, and 40 years later, still going strong. We pride ourselves on our track record of innovation and experimental work, having staged over 30 completely original productions, either home-grown, adapted, or written specifically for TWC. Original or not, all our productions tend towards the bold, exuberant, colourful, and generally larger than life. In another innovation, in 1993 we first took a production into the open air - to what seemed at the time the fairly improbable surroundings of the beer garden of our local, The Woodman Public House, in Woodmansterne, Surrey. In 2010, we moved our 40th anniversary summer production and all subsequent to the larger grounds of Coulsdon Manor Hotel, in Old Coulsdon, Surrey.
Owing to the pressures of life, work, barn dance calling and younger members leaving for university, TWC are always on the lookout for new members, aged 15 or over. TWC is unlike other amateur theatre groups. For one thing, we are very informal, with a simple philosophy: To aspire to the highest possible standards in every aspect of our productions - but never at the expense of sacrificing our own enjoyment! In other words - we take our material very seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously at all! TWC has a strong social tradition, with many activities away from the plays themselves, with many parties, as well as giant water pistol fights, hog roasts, and quite a lot of trips to the pub! Another highlight is our annual Christmas awards dinner at which the Theatre Workshop Artistic Talent (or TWAT) awards are presented not just to the best actor and actress, but also in such notable categories as Biggest Ham and Worst Cock-up. These coveted awards are unofficially known as ‘The Donalds’, in honour of the late, great (and sometimes very cruel!) Donald Madgwick, theatre critic of The Croydon Advertiser.
If you would be willing to share and develop your talent with us, you are warmly invited to drop into Coulsdon Community Centre, Chipstead Valley Road, Coulsdon, CR5 3BE on any Monday or Wednesday evening from 8.15pm to 10.00pm. Would-be actors and stage crew, (not to mention volunteers to assist with wardrobe, sets, etc.) are very welcome - experienced or otherwise. Open auditions take place in September for the Christmas production, in early January for the Spring production and in late March or early April for the Summer. Go on, give it a try.

Thorpe Players

It's amazing how often people ask what goes on behind the scenes at a drama group - and even more surprising to see their reactions when they find out that we're are not all luvvies that talk about theatre every waking minute.
Back in 1953 Frank Muir decided to put his considerable talents into forming an amateur drama group based at the Thorpe Village Hall. All the members were local people who enjoyed performing. Although none of the original members are with us today, many are long standing (some for over 30 years) and several are second generation Thorpe Players. One of the reasons that people stay with the group is its friendly, almost family-like atmosphere, where everyone pulls together to put on a production and, most importantly, ensure that we have fun doing it.
Over fifty years later, with many of our members coming from outside Thorpe, the aim of the group is still the same - to enjoy our acting, each other's company and to make sure that the audience enjoys our productions. We still perform two major productions a year at the Village Hall, but have now expanded our calendar to include Drama Festivals, Quiz Nights, One-Act Supper Evenings, Murder Mystery Evenings and numerous social events.
Many people think that you have to be an actor to join an amateur dramatics group. Not true, there is a lot more to running a group than the productions themselves. We also have a busy social calendar, write some of our own productions, need a committee to ensure that group is properly run and, of course, to manage our financial matters. It is relatively easy to recruit people who want to act, but far more difficult to find people who would be more interested in the technical, production or management side of the group.
If you either have, or would be interested in developing, any of these skills, then Thorpe Players would certainly be interested in hearing from you.
