Ghosts was founded in 1983 by Patsy Prescott, an immunologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, to perform Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore, working our way through most of the G&S 'repertoire' and in 1989 becoming responsible for the annual hospital pantomimes and raising over £15,000 for various causes related to Guildford hospitals - hence our original name of Guildford Hospitals Theatre (GHosTs) - now renamed simply "Ghosts". As if two shows a year weren't enough for us, we decided to do something 'serious' in 1991, and performed our first choral concert - John Stainer's Crucifixion. Our annual concerts are now as much a part of our programme as our staged performances. Ghosts are also delighted to be the 'regular' choir for the Radio Lion Christmas carol service broadcasts. We have also provided the chorus for several professional productions staged by the London Opera Players as well as winning a number of NODA (National Operatic & Dramatic Association) awards for our musicals. Glow Theatre Group is an exciting independent drama project for young people aged between 8 and 16! At Glow, we give children as many opportunities as possible to get up on stage and perform. We produce a number of full length plays each year, as well as taking in part in festivals and competitions, so our members are always working towards their next performance. Glow Theatre Group productions are fun, entertaining and high quality. The training given at Glow is of a consistently high standard, so that whichever role the children are taking on in the current production, they will be well equipped to perform it to their audience. Glow Theatre Group aims to produce excellent performances, and, through this, Glow children will discover the fun of performance, and the sense of achievement that comes from being a part of a success.
Godalming Operatic Society is always happy to welcome new members. Those with an interest in singing and performing on stage will enjoy participating in our shows. Each February we perform a Gilbert and Sullivan opera accompanied by a professional orchestra. We give six performances at The Borough Hall in Godalming and four performances at The Leatherhead Theatre. We also present a light hearted summer concert in early June, usually at The Electric Theatre in Guildford. Apart from the enjoyment of performing on stage there is the benefit of professional and experienced musical direction (MD is Robin Wells, formerly Director of Music at Charterhouse, Robin has been MD since 1970). With experienced stage direction and choreography there is the opportunity to further develop performing art skills. We also have occasional workshops for members. Rehearsals for our G & S production begin during September on Monday evenings. Open auditions are held for principal roles; if successful you would be required to join the Society. We also welcome help with make-up, front of house and backstage. Membership fees are very reasonable and there is no subscription fee payable for helpers. The Society is friendly and welcoming and has a large range of social activities for members to enjoy. For more details please visit our website. Good Company was formed in 2010 in order to produce small scale musicals to a very high standard. We have no membership stucture so we normally ask the cast to invest in the productions, with a view to their recouping that investment according to the success of the production. In 2010 we presented A Man of No Importance and have just completed The Drowsy Chaperone, both to high critical acclaim. The cast of The Drowsy Chaperone all recouped their investment! We are currently involved in a different venture; the World Premier of Olympus - The Musical, written by two Surrey composer/writers, which will be performed at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon and at the magical Minack Theatre, Cornwall in May 2012 to coincide with the start of the Olympic Torch relay from Land's End. This is an RSC Open Stages production and will be showcased at the Questors Theatre Ealing on Sun 22nd April as part of the Open Stages initiative. website goodcompanyboxoffice@gmail.com

Now our repertoire is extremely varied and includes musicals and concerts. Our directors and designers always ensure a production that is entertaining to watch, fun to perform and above all enjoyable. The cast is selected through open auditions, and frequently includes rising stars of the London professional opera scene, and young singers straight out of music college. We rehearse at Merrow Methodist Church Hall, Bushey Hill Drive, Merrow, every Wednesday evening from 7.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. Our productions require non-performing members to help with set design, backstage crew, scenery painting, and administration such as publicity.
