Clevedon Comedy Club was formed when a few people (Maureen and Alan Smith, Doug and Barbara Stinchcombe, Sid Martin and Frank Chesterman) were rehearsing for an entertainment at a Harvest Supper. After rehearsal all went back to the Smiths' for coffee and discussed the type of show that was missing in Clevedon. That was on 20th September 1970. There was already in existence a Drama Club and an Opera Club, but at that time nothing in light entertainment - and nothing to encourage youngsters to join. It was decided to form a family club and concentrate on light entertainment and pantomime. It would be called The Comedy Club.
