StowmarketWho are Little SODS? We are SODS’ (Stowmarket Operatic and Dramatic Society) junior group. We are open to young people between 8 and 18. What do you do? We provide local young people with the opportunity to perform drama, learn new theatre skills and techniques and, most importantly, have fun! We operate in a friendly, encouraging and positive environment, and we are always looking for more people to join our clan. Little SODS meet every Wednesday evening during term time at Chilton Primary School in Stowmarket. A typical session includes a warm-up, drama exercises, games, movement, singing, sketches and work on pieces for performance. In the Autumn-Winter term we get into the Christmas spirit with our very own pantomime. The show is written specifically for Little SODS, and tailored to the group so that every member has plenty to do during the rehearsal process and in the show itself. This year, we will be taking to the high seas with our all-singing, all-dancing production of Robinson Crusoe. Our second term, running from January until the Easter holidays, is our activity term. To provide the young people with a range of experiences, we invite in various outside practitioners and groups to lead performance-based workshops. These range from vocal techniques to dance styles, from improvisation to stage combat. These workshops are interspersed throughout the term with games and activities devised and run by our very own leaders. To round off the year, after Easter we begin rehearsals for our summer production. In the past, these have included the fantasy horror musical ‘The Rocky Monster Show’, a collection of abridged Shakespeare plays with a comedy twist, ‘SPANDEX - The Musical’ – an epic tale of failed superheroes uniting for a common cause and the hilarious comedy musical ‘Pandemonium’, a story of wonder, romance, mystique and some very cheesed-off Greek gods! For our Summer productions, we occasionally split the group into younger and older members. This enables us to do more than one show, and gives us the opportunity to experiment with productions that are tailored specifically to age. We also support older members in submitting their own ideas for drama and development. We actively encourage our members to stay in touch as they get older – several of the current SODS membership were once Little SODS themselves! Who runs the group? We have at least four leaders at each session (and usually six) to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need to improve their skills. As a group we adhere to the NODA Model Child Protection Policy. All leaders are members of SODS themselves. They are also CRB checked and are expected to obtain chaperones’ licences when they start work. Can I join? The maximum group size is 40 members, and there is currently a (shortish) waiting list. If you’d like to join us, or if you’d like to just find out more, please contact us via our website or social media |

KesgraveThe Masque Players have been performing in one form or another for well over 60 years! Originally known as the Nacton Road Players, the group was originally developed to present Shakespeare to local schools. Over the years the group has evolved into a versatile amateur dramatics group which stage a wide range of drama. The Masque Players are based at the Kesgrave Community Centre and with an active membership of in excess of 30 members produce two plays a year, one near Easter and the other at the end of November. The Masque Players have built up a well deserved reputation within the Suffolk theatrical community. Little wonder when you consider our constant output of quality plays and also that we can claim early association with such theatre luminaries such as Trevor Nunn who used to join the group for play readings! We manage to attract a regular stream of audiences to our productions and it is not unknown to get over 700 for the four nights we stage our plays. New members are always made welcome in whatever capacity they feel comfortable doing. With two productions a year there is always the opportunity to do something, whether its on, off or behind stage Contact via our website or social media |

IpswichRushmere Players started life in the 1940's, based originally in Rushmere Hall Primary School but latterly at the Sir John Mills as our audiences expanded. We have appeared in Drama festivals in Felixstowe and as far afield as Llandrindod Wells. We are a small team with a core membership of 12 – young and not-so-young – but are able to draw on friends in the membership of other groups in the area when the need arises. We like to put on plays that are challenging both for the actors and technical, such as A Few Good Men(Aaron Sorkin), Roots (Arnold Wesker) and The Crucible (Arthur Miller) but Shakespeare has yet to appear in our repertoire. We are a very friendly group and an ideal starting-place for anyone looking to get involved in amateur theatre. It doesn’t have to be as a performer; there’s always a need for assistance with set building / painting, props and generally helping out backstage. One of our current members started like that and has now just finished playing Captain Darling in our last production, so no need to plunge straight into the deep-end. Please email us for more information and we’ll fill you in on our current activity: rushmereplayers@gmx.co.uk |
