FelixstoweFelixstowe Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society was formed in 1946 and is the oldest established amateur dramatic and operatic society in Felixstowe. We currently have an adult Drama section and put on a number of productions each year from one act plays, entered in local festivals and often written by our own award winning authors, to full length productions. We have our own premises at 312A High Street, Walton, Felixstowe, IP11 9QJ (behind the Basics Charity Shop opposite the Half Moon public house) which is used for rehearsals and for entertainments for members and their friends and families. Occasionally we also mount productions for the public in this building. We offer Costumes and Props for hire at very reasonable rates. FADOS House is also available for hire for various functions either for a single event or on a recurring basis. We are always looking for new members to join us - whether as actors, directors, scenery builders/designers, back stage or front-of-house or anyone with an interest in the theatre. Trimley Welcome Hall Trimley St Martin Memorial HallFelixstowe Musical Theatre started in 1966 as an evening class under the auspices of the Adult Education Centre and met for rehearsals in what is now Orwell High school. Their first production – Salad Days- at the school was so successful it was decided to put their next show – Free as Air- on at the Spa Pavilion. At about this time the fees payable for being an evening class rose to £1 .10s (£1.50) a head per term and we thought we could do better if we were independent! After this, rehearsals have been held at various venues in the town and we have been settled for many years now in the Welcome Hall, Trimley St Mary. We also became affiliated to N.O.D.A ( National Operatic and Dramatic Association) whose advice and support has been invaluable over the years. At first we only did one major musical per year and had a Road Show which travelled round the nearby villages, but in 1971 decided on two productions a year at the Spa . In the early 90’s we started our format of a musical in summer and a pantomime in the winter. Over the years we have supported many charities, mostly local, and the proceeds of the in-house raffle at the Spa during ‘Peter Pan’ supported the Ipswich Children’s Hospice. After our performance of ‘Underneath the Arches’ in 1998 we felt very honoured when Roy Hudd agreed to become our president. IpswichThe Gallery Players was formed in 1985 by Pat Taplin to produce rarely performed plays and small musicals which only use a few actors or that larger theatre companies might find uneconomic. Since then, Gallery has embraced a broad range of both musicals and stage plays and has acquired a reputation for excellence in the Eastern region, winning several awards. Hollesley nr WoodbridgeThe Hollesley Players was formed as a village Amateur Dramatics group in 1979 and since then has grown to establish itself as one of the leading Companies in the local area - drawing its members and audiences from very much further afield. We usually stage two productions each year - a play in the late spring mainly for adults, and a pantomime or 'special' shortly before Christmas, featuring music, singing and dance, and in which we especially like to include children and teenagers. Join the Hollesley Players! We welcome new members and are always on the look out for enthusiasm and talent! If you're interested in joining us, either as a performer or part of our technical crew, please speak to anyone of the Group at one of our shows. Bury St EdmundsThe company was founded in 1959 as the Irving Club by a group of enthusiasts anxious to present high quality theatre in West Suffolk. Since then the company has established a fine record for classical and contemporary theatre in the region. The Irving Youth Company was founded in 1986 and merged with the main company several years later. The company continues to provide young actors with the opportunity to work in the Theatre Royal. The company played a major role in supporting the restoration of the Theatre Royal both during the I960s and the recent tremendously successful project of 2005-7.
