Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society (The LADS)

Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society - known throughout the area as the LADS - has been in existence for 20 years, bringing live theatre to the village and drawing an ever-increasing following from as far afield as Oswestry, Welshpool and Shrewsbury.
From humble beginnings, the Society has flourished and its reputation has grown. A large collection of medals and silverware from various festivals bears this out, but the primary aim of the LADS was and always will be to provide reasonably-priced live entertainment to the highest possible standard. To this end three productions a year are staged - one just before Christmas, one in late spring and one in early summer.
Since 1992 the LADS have tackled all manner of plays, from light comedies and period pieces, to innovative new plays and ambitious spectacles with a cast of 50.
Come and join us!
If you want to get involved with the LADS, we are always on the lookout for new members. Whether you want to act, direct, do costumes or make-up or help with the technical side of a production, you will be guaranteed of a warm welcome.
We also run a free mailing list which gives advance notice of forthcoming plays and readings.

What we do
PQA is a weekend performing arts academy providing tuition for children and young people from 4-18 years. Students spend three hours with us, rotating through hour-long sessions in comedy & drama, musical theatre and film & television. Students are split into groups according to their age and are taught by specialist teachers.
Our Mission
By working with people we believe are outstanding in their field, we aim to provide our students with a constantly evolving experience – something that is fresh, exciting and bang up-to-date. We want to instil the benefits of the performing arts into a new generation of young people, helping them to realise their potential, grow as individuals and become the people they want to be as they learn skills valuable for everyday life, not just the performing arts. And if our students have the ambition, we want to teach them the skills and give them the support to make it happen. Above all, we encourage our students to be amazing, just by being themselves.
Ages 4-18
Saturday mornings from 10am until 1pm

How we do it
The PQA model has been put together by people who work professionally in the performing arts, entertainment industry and education sector. It means our classes deliver high educational value combined with realistic industry practice and our students get the best possible experience.
Your local academy is run by an experienced, dedicated professional who has proven to us they have the passion, drive and dedication to deliver a really different performing arts education. We do not charge franchise fees to own a PQA because we place most value on having the right person in charge and would rather those people used their resources to invest in the Academy, rather than pay us. All staff undergo a rigorous recruitment procedure (naturally including an enhanced CRB check) and we provide support and training enabling them to work at the top of their game so they can help your children reach the top of theirs.

Shrewsbury Drama

Drama forms an important part of the extra-curricular programme at Shrewsbury. From the outset, pupils are encouraged to take part in a variety of exciting and stimulating theatre projects, including events devised and directed by the students themselves. As well as a thriving programme of House plays, each year sees four major productions at school level: the Senior School Play and the Junior School Play in the second half of the Michaelmas Term; a Whole School Musical in the Lent Term; and a Whole School Play in the final week of the Summer Term for all year groups not involved in public exams.

Shrewsbury Musical Theatre Company is Shropshire’s longest established musical theatre group. SMTC draws on the very best local talent and employs hugely experienced professional creative teams to bring the world’s top musicals to Shrewsbury audiences. With over 100 members based around the county, SMTC is a well-known company with a professional outlook and a reputation for producing spectacular shows. We have been in existence for almost 100 years, providing entertainment and enjoyment for Shropshire audiences and an outlet for the creative talents and interests of our members. Many of our members have gone on to perform professionally in The West End and beyond.

Originally known as Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society (SAOS), we changed our name in 2019 in direct response to comments from our audiences who insist that the quality of our productions is far from amateur. The SMTC logo reflects the loop of the River Severn and the fact that we’re proud to perform at the magnificent Theatre Severn.
