Although there are no auditions for new performing members, as an Operatic Society performing musical theatre, it is expected that you will have some ability to be able to sing, act and dance. The first show is in effect the audition, and if you pass, the Committee will invite you to become a fully fledged Performing Member - it\’s fair to say most newcomers survive, so just enjoy the show!
Principals rehearse on Mondays and the Company on Wednesdays from 7.30 to 10.00 pm at Society Headquarters in Ferry Street, Stapenhill, Burton.

C.A.T.S. originated from the Carlos Players which were formed in the 1930s in Cheadle in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The Carlos Players used to perform at the local Church Hall, known as the Carlos Institute. In 1974, the Institute was demolished and the group moved their performances to the Lecture Theatre at Cheadle High School. The group changed its name to ‘Cheadle Amateur Theatrical Society’ or ‘C.A.T.S.’ for short. Since 1974, we have built up a reputation for our performances and attract our membership from the local area as well as further afield. We have won many awards both on stage, behind the scenes and front of house.
We do at least 3 performances a year. In February, we perform our annual Traditional Pantomime, written and directed by our own members. In March/April we enter the All England One Act Play Festival and in late October C.A.T.S. perform the October play. The venue for our Pantomimes and October plays is the Cheadle Community Theatre, Cheadle Academy, Station Road, Cheadle, Staffs.
We have around 50 members. Minimum age is 11 years, but we also have members of 70+. Why not contact us? We are constantly looking for new members both on stage and off.
Rehearsals take place on Mondays and Friday evenings at Cheadle County Primary School, Cheadle. Pentomime rehearsals start in early November and the October play rehearsals commence in May. The One Act Play rehearsals, start in February.
CATS is based in Staffordshire in the West Midlands.

Chellaston Players are a Derby based amateur theatre company performing at venues in Chellaston and Derby.
Chellaston Players was formed in 1975 after nine people from Chellaston responded to Edna Ford's advertisement for a new drama group. The group had no money, no props, no scenery, and limited experience but this didn't stop them!
Since our humble beginnings, Chellaston Players have grown from strength to strength. A number of our members have received accolades and awards from the Derby Amateur Theatre Association and some have gone on to professional jobs, including one BAFTA winner in 2011!. We are always grounded and perform a number of shows each year primarily at our home in Chellaston.
