Shakespeare in the Park Company

Lichfield

Membership of 'Shakespeare in the Park' is open to anybody. The organisation is headed by a small committee but the only pre-requisite for membership is an interest in participating and an enthusiasm for the event. The activity of the group takes place over a fairly short but very intensive time span. Many members are therefore also members of other local drama groups with whom they perform throughout the rest of the year.
The production is launched each year in early March with an open meeting to which anyone interested in participation is invited. At this meeting the director outlines his or her ideas for the play, discusses the roles and hands out audition pieces to all who are interested in acting parts. Those interested in any other activities within the group, such as backstage, front-of-house or administration, are also invited along to meet the Committee members and discuss openings for their involvement.
Auditions for the play take place in late March or early April, after which those selected for parts have several weeks to learn lines and take part in readings or dialogue workshops. Rehearsals begin in May and run for four to five weeks, according to Bank holidays, taking place on several evenings a week and all outside on site at Maple Hayes. The vagaries of the English climate mean that every type of weather condition may be encountered over this period and nothing should be a surprise.
Staging and sets for 'Shakespeare in the Park' are kept fairly simple and open to retain the beauty of the surroundings and work on the construction of these is carried out on site over weekends in May and June. Then, over the weekend prior to the production date set-up weekend the main imports to the site arrive. Marquees for cast dressing rooms and the bar, and smaller tents for box office and props, are all erected. Portable toilets are delivered and large numbers of lights with vast lengths of cabling are brought in and hung. Most importantly, the straw bales for audience seating are unloaded and laid out. This is therefore a very busy weekend with many people involved and all working very hard to get everything ready for our public. This weekend is followed by dress rehearsals on the Monday and Tuesday before the show goes up on the Wednesday.
We do four evening performances with an additional matinee on the Saturday. On the Sunday following the final performance everything is stripped out again and cleared away with everyone helping to tidy and restore the site. Finally everyone joins in a celibratory barbecue to round off an event which has for many become a vital and very enjoyable event in their annual calendar.

Stone Little Theatre

Stone Little Theatre is based at Stone Cricket Club and we stage our productions at Walton Priory Middle School.

Stone Little Theatre was born out of an idea by Chris C Bell and Alan Thorley and was officially formed as the drama section of the then Corning Sports & Social Club in September 1979 and presented its first pantomime - 'SInbad The Sailor' - in 1980. At that time, it was planned to produce an annual pantomime to which employees of Corning Science Products could bring their families. It soon became clear that there was a much wider need for live theatrical entertainment in the Stone area and consequently, the company’s role quickly grew to include plays and musicals.

TAC has been based in Tamworth, Staffordshire(UK) since 1946, and has members from the local areas. We put on two shows each year - usually West End and Broadway musicals, with an occasional Gilbert and Sullivan operetta or compilation-type shows.
We are delighted to welcome new members to audition for any show. If your talents are more suited to helping behind the scenes we'd like to hear from you too, particularly if you can sew, paint, construct scenery or props.
Alternatively, if you're happy just to support us why not become a patron? Rising costs make it more and more difficult to put on a high quality production without increasing ticket prices, so our patrons support is valuable to us. For £25 you will receive 2 tickets, one for each of our shows, copies of our newsletter, other benefits and the warm glow that comes from knowing how much we appreciate your help!
Rehearsals take place each Wednesday (7.30 pm) at St. John Ambulance Headquarters, Moor St. and on Fridays (7.30-9.30) for principals (and occasionally chorus) at Central Methodist Hall, Aldergate. Why not just turn up to any rehearsal and ask for a committee member or membership secretary, Keith Wild, or telephone our Chairman, Alan Tonks on 01827 260602
Please feel free to info@tamworthartsclub.org.uk if you have any queries.

Founded in 2011, TDA Productions is the only theatre company in the area led BY youth, FOR youth!
Since our debut production in 2012, TDA Productions have given over 100 young performers/musicians the chance to perform in professional-quality productions. Through this we have raised over £21,000 for charity.
Our shows have attracted support & investment from local and national companies including The Royal Shakespeare Company, Autonet Insurance, The Dudson Group and The Really Useful Group. In fact on the final show of ‘Les Misérables’ we welcomed VIP audience members BAFTA-winning actor Stuart Brennan and Harry Potter movie star Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), who described the show as being “wonderful"!
All the creative aspects of the performance are carried out by young people themselves, the Director, Musical Director, choreographer, backstage crew, cast and musicians are all young people.
There is a small amount of adult intervention with CRB checked parents assisting with Administrative Support and Chaperone duties.

Hednesford

Tower Players are Hednesford’s only well established drama group bearing such a name, inspired by a local landmark. Formed in 2006, we have built up a reputation for inventive performances of a wide range of musicals and plays, including some written by our own members. We are a very welcoming bunch with a distinct lack of internal poilitics, which makes for a relaxed and jovial atmosphere at all times (even when no-one can remember any lines 4 days before curtain up!!). Thursday night is always drama night for the Tower Players, and in keeping with the tradition of am-dram groups around the world this is generally followed by a well earned trip to the pub! We are always looking for new members for both on stage and behind the scenes.
If you would like to get involved you can email us at towerplayers@live.com for more details.
