We started the society in September 2005 so that students would have more oppertunity to perform in musical theatre. Since we started, we have enrolled over 150 members and have put on our first major production, "Curtain Call Gala 2006" which was seen by over 350 people in one day and our first full musical "Godspell" was seen by over 450 (not bad for a town the size of Aber). We are currently in the rehearsal process of our first major production this year "Return to the Forbidden Planet" and we are currently putting together "WHOA: On Broadway" ( WHOA is produced by What Was That? Productions see www.freewebs.com/whatwasthatproductions) both of which will be in February 2007. As of this year we have started several new workshops as part of our own going commitment to growing and increasing the level of activity for our members. As part of the new initiatives we will be holding tap workshops, street dance workshops, Curtain Call Broadway Singing Group, Salsa classes and working in conjunction with local schools on workshops in drama and musical theatre! 2006-2007 is going to be a huge year for us as we look to cement more success and reputation for the Curtain Call brand. We are also looking into the possibility of going on a theatre break to London and also entering the National Student Drama Festival. Contact via our website or social media
Cwmbrân Male Choir was formed in 1964, with many of the original members coming from older choirs in the area. The choir performs regular concerts throughout the country, mostly for deserving charities, and the choir is also a registered charity. Our repertoire is wide ranging from the serious to the light hearted and includes spirituals, folk songs and choral arrangements of musical songs. The choir has often joined in exchange concerts with other choirs, and musical groups, and has sung at concerts the length and breadth of Britain. The choir has sung at many famous concert venues such as the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, and appeared with many famous artistes including Bryn Terfel, Katherine Jenkins and Helen Field. We also have toured Germany, France, United States of America, Northern and Southern Ireland, Spain, Scotland and Jersey. The choir very successfully revisited Northern Ireland in May/June 2004, and undertook a second tour of Scotland in 2006. Llanyrafon Drama Group was started more than 20 years ago by a group of people interested in performing. Over the years the group performed many pantomimes as well as several plays and sketch shows but due to members’ family and work commitments it rested for a while. The group made a comeback in 2009 with a New Year pantomime and is now fully active. If you are interested, please contact a committee member or email us at info@llanyrafondramagroup.co.uk
