Founded in 1983 by a group of like minded thespians, the group has since gone on to be one of the strongest drama groups in Connaught, if not the known world ! Originally comprising of under 10 people, we now have amassed an ensemble of over 50 people, who all contribute to the groups aims of nurturing amateur drama within the area. Contact via website |
North East GalwayDunmore Amateur Dramatic Society or (D.A.D.S. as it became known) had its genesis either in the mists of time or in Mary Howley’s pub ten years ago – depending on your point of view. I tend to favour the former myself because Drama has been part and parcel of this little village in North East Galway for much farther back than anyone living can remember. Contact via website |

GlenamaddyAmateur Drama is not a recent happening in the life of the Glenamaddy Community. It can be traced back to the turn of the century when groups got together from different villages i.e. Ardeevin, Boyounagh and Ballyhard to stage these productions in order to fund local organizations. In the 1950's there was a strong local group under the direction of the local C.C. Fr.Conway. They staged plays "The Whip Hand", "Professor Tim", "The Boxeen" and the "New Gosson" and displayed the acting talents of the late Dan Collins, Plunkett Marren and also featured many others who still survive today and are working in community organizations. GalwayThe Portumna Players came into existence in 1945. Gerry Darcy, Eamon Hayes, Des and Aileen Murphy were the founding members. The reason for the society’s birth was to raise funds for the Portumna Lawn and Table Tennis Club. Their first production in 1945 was, ‘Paul Twyning’ by George Shiel. So encouraged were they by the success of the play that the Portumna Drama Group were formed. Subsequently a constitution was drawn up. The two objectives were to promote the dramatic art and to build a Little Theatre. |

GalwayThe Galway University Musical Society (GUMS) is known for being the only college musical society to let everyone take part. It doesn't matter if the closest thing to being on stage was your Junior Infant Nativity play - all that you need to have to be in GUMS is enthusiasm, a love of musicals (or at least to be prepared to love musicals) and a willingness to get involved.
