Rutland Arts Theatre Society or "RATS" have been performing in Rutland since our formation in July 1974. Rats are the only thearical society in Rutland to stage three production a year. These usually take the form of a play in May, a music/variety show in September/Ocotber and a pantomime in January/February. We have now made The Victoria Hall, High Street, Oakham our home and from May 2010 all our future productions will be staged there. Previously we staged our pantomine at the Vale of Catmose College Theatre, Cold Overton Road, Oakham. We had built a good relationship with the students from the College who performed in our shows and also helped as technical and backstage crew. However, a new build programme at the school has meant that the theatre is no longer available to us so we have now decided that all our future productions will be at the Victoria Hall. We are always on the look out for new talent, backstage crew and ideas for future productions as well Directors etc for our productions. RATS are a freindly and welcoming society so don't be shy and come along and meet us and have some fun. We meet every Wednesday at 7.30pm at The Victoria Hall, Oakham Just come along and join us!
Rainbow Youth Drama is for young people who want to develop their creative skills, in a warm and friendly setting. We run youth drama classes in Oakham, Rutland and after school drama clubs in the surrounding area. Our aim is to give young people the opportunity to learn a range of theatrical skills, alongside their peers, including improvisation, stage management, team work and confidence building.
Our drama group is one of the most successful amateur dramatics group within Leicestershire and Rutland. In 2017 we celebrated 55 glorious years, during which time our group has developed from strength to strength. The current group is the largest it has ever been and enjoys audiences that most drama groups can only dream about. Within our dynamic group we have a thriving Senior Group, a growing Youth Group and a famous Murder Mystery Group which helps raise money for local charities. Whetstone Drama have won many awards over the years within The Leicestershire and Rutland Full Length Play Festival and most recently NANDA. These include many 'Best Plays', ‘Best Producers', several 'Best Actors’ and ‘Best Actresses' or ‘Supporting Actors’ and ‘Supporting Actresses' as well as other categories such as 'Best Set', 'Best Teamwork' & ‘Best Programmes’.
