Association of Irish Musical Societies

The Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) provides a voice to musical theatre in Ireland. Over 130 musical societies, throughout the whole of Ireland, are members of AIMS – this relates to around 14,000 people directly involved with musical theatre and an audience base of around 1.2 million.
AIMS provides many services to its members, ranging from help and advice in choosing shows, resolving any difficulties that they may face, running various workshops on all aspects of theatre, through to an adjudication and awards scheme that is constantly pushing forward the standards of musical theatre.

Membership of AIMS is open to any society that is involved in Musical Theatre in Ireland, subject to their membership application being approved by the AIMS ruling body - the National Council.

The annual AIMS weekend “Seminar” is celebrated in June. The highlight of this weekend is the announcement of the winners of the various awards.

The “Seminar” is attended by just under 1000 people and is the largest event of its kind held in Ireland. It brings together people who have a common love of musical theatre and provides a great social opportunity for members from different societies to come together.

Ballinrobe Musical Society

Ballinrobe in the West of Ireland

Ballinrobe Musical Society was formed in 1943, during the Second World War, and staged its first show in the spring of 1944.

Its aim was to provide an avenue of escapism for a community, weary from the drudgery of war, economic hardship and emigration. It is testament to the power of music, that to this day, despite all the advancements of the world and technology, the members and patrons of our society still use this avenue of enjoyment to entertain and be entertained.

It is hard now to imagine our town not being invaded for one week every year by cowboys, gangsters or pirates with nothing more in mind than joyful music, song and dance.

After its establishment and four productions during the 1940s, the Society lapsed, giving way in the ‘50s, and particularly the ‘60’s to an avid interest in the art of drama, which manifested itself annually in the Ballinrobe Drama Festival.

The 1970s saw the pendulum swaying once more in the direction of musical drama, with the late Dr. Christy Guckian, RIP, presiding over the rebirth of the Society.

To all those who have served the Society since its inception, both on and off stage, we say thank you for the legacy. We hope that this beautiful thing which you have created and nurtured will continue to be celebrated for one week annually in the town, for may years to come.

Bridge Drama is an amateur drama group based in Castlebridge, Co. Wexford
Our main aim is to present productions of the highest quality and entertainment value, while having the maximum amount of fun!!
Our group is open to anyone with an interest in the stage or getting involved behind the scenes.
Our year (officially!) begins in late August and the committee remains active until late June.
In October we produce a show which has in recent years has been a 'Night of Comedy' consisting of a number of short comedy plays. It has been held in the Porter House in Castlebridge and in the Talbot Hotel in Wexford town.
No sooner is the October production over when work begins on the year's main show, a 3 act play which opens locally in February before heading off on tour as part of the ADCI festival circuit, where we've competed since 2002.
The circuit production sometimes runs into May (depending on results!) but it's no sooner over than it's time for work to begin in picking next year plays!
