Initially founded under the banner of "The Methodist Players" in 1963, the group changed its name some time later to "The Community Players" as it was felt that "The Methodist Players" might restrict some individuals from joining. We have remained "The Community Players" ever since.
The Group originally comprised some dozen or so enthusiastic thespians and our premier production, in 1964, was "Here We Come Gathering", chosen simply because we could cast it and the set was minimalist (an empty cottage). One enduring memory of this production was when, at one point, a tramp is frying bacon on-stage - whilst we had the effects person frying REAL bacon off-stage and wafting the aroma into the audience. This worked perfectly - except that the aroma reached the audience half an hour AFTER the bacon-frying scene. When the audience were on their way out in fact!
We went up-market and ambitious for our second production, "The Diary of Anne Frank" and went overboard with the set - having four rooms on-stage all visible at the same time.
Since these early beginnings, we have presented a wide variety of plays from farce to the classics and have tried to cater for every taste. The Group has a faithful group of Patrons (approximately 50 in all) who support us for all our productions and social activities (Quiz Nights, Murder Mystery evenings etc.). From a very small Church Hall seating about 80 at a time, we have progressed to a Community Centre in the heart of New Eltham, London, SE9 where a "full house" (some 220 people) is frequently achieved. After 43 years, we look forward to reaching our half-century with many more exciting productions.
The Community Players welcome newcomers, with or without experience! We meet at The Methodist Centre, Footscray Road, New Eltham every Tuesday, and some Fridays, from 8pm to 10pm. We have a great time! Why not come along and meet us or send us an email to find out more. We look forward to meeting you!

The Hackney Players is now in its forty-fourth year and during that time has put on over 100 productions ranging from Greek melodrama and thrillers to comedy, pantomime and music hall.
We have performed in various halls and theatres in both Hackney and other boroughs, but our principal home for many years the years was Summit Estate Hall in Stamford Hill where we had meetings, stored costumes and scenery, rehearsed and performed the majority of our productions over the years. Over the years the building had not worn well and in 2011 Hackney Homes offered us the use of Morland Community Hall.
We are now in out third year at Morland and after producing our first pantomime last December we feel we are at home!

Producing great musical theatre for 90 years in Sutton and Carshalton!
Founded in 1922, we are an amateur theatre society based in South West London, with rehearsal venues in Cheam and Wallington. We perform in Carshalton and Sutton, usually putting on two productions a year, one around April and one in November. We believe in producing accessible, though not always well known, theatre for all members of the community to enjoy. We rehearse regularly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 20:00 and 22:15 and usually have several Sunday afternoon rehearsals from 14:00 to 18:00 as each production comes towards the end of its rehearsal period. Our auditions are open to all and new members are always welcome.

The MTA is unique. We offer the UK’s first, fast track programme that is focused on getting you industry-ready in 2 years, rather than the traditional 3 years.
Entry to The MTA is by audition – no qualifications are necessary other than an overwhelming desire to work as a performer. Whilst we specialise in Musical Theatre, our ambassadors are equally at home on the screen and in straight plays (both contemporary and classical).
If you have a dream, the ambition and the drive, then The MTA is for you, because everyone here feels the same way. There are no career teachers at The MTA, only working professionals who want to teach the next generation of performers. They can, and as you can see from our stats do, give you the skills to realise your potential.

The Philbeach Society

London

The Philbeach Society is a London-based amateur operatic company specialising in light opera and musical shows. The society meets on Tuesdays at the GOODWILL CENTRE SALVATION ARMY HALL, Chichester Road, Kilburn Park, NW6. This is just one minute's walk from KILBURN PARK tube station (Bakerloo Line). Out of the Station, turn right, past the PRINCE OF WALES pub and the next building on the right is the GOODWILL CENTRE. We are there from 7.30pm and finish the evening in the pub next door for a beer or three! Anyone who thinks they can sing and/or act is very welcome to join us. We also welcome anyone interested in the production/technical side of putting on an amateur show. If you can wield a paintbrush, sew a costume or hammer a nail, come and see us. We try to put on a major show every year which may be a G&S operetta, something from the Edwardian period, a popular musical or, indeed, anything! We have even performed a major piece of musical drama written by one of our own members. One of the songs from this show (Rosie) became a Eurovision entry In addition to the major show we tend to put on small shows and concerts throughout the year involving more or less of our members. These are usually seasonal (Easter, Christmas, etc.). Weekends away when we perform out of London, taking over some unsuspecting rural community, are also a regular feature. We team-up with an American light-opera group from New York every few years to present a joint production, either in New York or London. For more information about this please click on the B.A.L.O.E. button above.

For sixty years, the Players of St Peter have been performing English medieval drama in London, and are, we believe, unique in offering annual productions from the main English mystery cycles. At the end of November each year we perform a selection of plays from one of the four most complete cycles (York, Chester, Wakefield and "N-Towne" - also known as "The Plaie called Corpus Christi"). Our productions take the Bible story as far as the Nativity, presenting a selection of self-contained scenes within the hour-and-a-half duration of each performance.

Based in Forest Hill, south-east London, this friendly Amateur Dramatic Society, formed in 1934, presents two full-length productions every year. Now located in the new St George's Church, Vancouver Road, Forest Hill, south-east London, technology has improved since those early days. Uncover Theatre make large-scale, ensemble performance that is about the experiences and ideas of the group members. Our work is an organised chaos, energetic and sometimes raw with a mix of rehearsed and live moments. We use movement, design, new and original texts that we develop as a company, big soundtracks and improvisations. We are constantly developing our work, how we approach it, where we do it and what we make it about, to communicate our thoughts and ideas in different ways. We make theatre that excites us and our audiences and work that we think pushes people's ideas about what we are capable of doing as young people.
The group meet weekly and work towards creating performances for the Albany and other exciting festivals and venues. We have previously performed at the Albany, Soho Theatre, Lewisham People?s Day, Forest Fest, Brockley Max and the Southbank Centre.
'Our youth theatre isn't like other youth theatres. If I didn't have this theatre to motivate me, I don't think I would be motivated at all.'

Unicorn Young Company (UYC) is an entirely youth-led theatre group supported by the Unicorn.
We decide what we want to say about the world and theatre and express it in our own way through our work, hiring the directors we are interested in and choosing the scripts we like. We are in control of our voice and because of this we are proud to break some rules and conventions. Unlike any other youth organisation we have a first-hand account of what the youth want to express, and we deliver.
If you are an individual who doesn't shy away from a challenge, who wants to see their work in performances, you are the kind of person we are looking for.
Members have to be aged between 13-19 (meaning you must be 13 or up to 19 years-old on 1st September of the relevant year). There is a £15 membership fee that is collected every term, which we use to fund our productions. There are no expectations for payment from people who have free school meals.

Younger Generation Theatre Group

Croydon

The Younger Generation was set up in 1989 to give young people the oppportunity and chance to appear on stage in a professional environment. The group is a registered charity and last year they represented N.O.D.A. (National Operatic & Dramatic Assoc)in the Queen Mother's Birthday parade in London. Group is for boys & girls aged 10 to 18 who want to appear on the stage. We like to have about 100 young people aged 9 - 18 tears old in our shows. We try to give each cast member and equal amount of items to appear in. We know that some of our cast are not 'brilliant' but we do not aim for perfection like stage school. Our aim is to let anyone try that would like to have a go at being on stage. It doesn't matter if you are fat, thin, tall, short or even from Mars, if you have the energy and are prepared to work with us, we will help you! The annual show is at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon. There is a one off subscription fee of £50, which covers all rehearsals and costumes. For further information please contact Diane on 020 8679-9404
