ACT One is an amateur musical theatre group based in Shepshed, near Loughborough, Leicestershire. We are an independent youth theatre, catering for local young people and their interest in musical theatre.
We rehearse every Friday night at Christchurch Methodist Church in Shepshed, and perform two productions a year at Hind Leys College Theatre, Shepshed. A major musical in February, and a staged concert in June/July.
We are always looking for new talent, but unfortunately we need to limit the size of the group. In order to do this we ask every potential member to audition to join us. If you are interested in joining us and are in school years 6-13 (that\’s roughly 10 -18 years old!) then please contact us for the details of or next audition.
As well as providing the opportunity to perform on stage, Act one inspires and builds confidence not only on stage, but also in life itself. In fact we already have several ex-members attending performing arts colleges and indeed some of them have also entered the profession. Many of our members have also gone on to perform with a host of local adult groups.
We are a close group, we make every effort to support each other and make every rehearsal a fun experience. We have 2 cast representatives, to help bring ideas from the cast to the committee. These are currently Becky Bakewell & Christian Darnell.
Please note that all our trustees and leaders have been CRB-checked with regard to their involvement with children.

BrightLights Theatre School opened in Loughborough in 2011, and provides quality, affordable performing arts training for young people. The school is run by Nick Sutcliffe, originally from Loughborough, and a graduate of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. He has 17 years experience as a professional actor, director and choreographer in the West End, major regional theatres, touring productions, TV and commercials. Nick also teaches and delivers workshops across the UK.
BrightLights runs every Saturday with both morning and afternoon sessions at Gorse Covert Community Centre in Maxwell Drive, Loughborough. The school is very much connected to the industry with regular guest teachers from London's West End, TV and Film. Guests so far have included cast members from “Wicked”, “Billy Elliott”, “Mamma Mia”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Spamalot” and “Coronation Street”. We are also in regular contact with several Casting Directors – students have auditioned for the national tour of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert”, local pantomimes, and a BBC Film adaptation of "Swallows and Amazons".
Although we can not guarantee that any of these people will whisk one of our students off to Hollywood(!!!), what it does mean is that our students are receiving top notch tuition from industry professionals who really are at the top of their game. As far as we are aware no other school in the area offers such strong industry links.
BrightLights mirrors the term dates for local schools, without breaking for half term.
All BrightLights staff and volunteers are DBS checked, and all students are covered by insurance while at the school.
For more information, or to sign up for our trial sessions please call 01509 646 647 or email info@brightlightstheatreschool.com.
Bright Young Things (4-6 Years)
Bright Young Things is our shorter, 90 minutes fun session for younger children. It is designed to give 4-6 year olds an insight into the exciting world of drama, singing and dance. ?Each group is limited to just 10 children to give every one of them their chance to shine!
Our Bright Young Things also perform twice a year. They join our main school for the Christmas Concert, and perform their own end of year show at Gorse Covert Community Centre.
Due to time restrictions and suitability of workshops the industry professionals do not take workshops with our Bright Young Things, but these are some of the things they can look forward to if they decide to join the Main School when the time is right for them. Obviously if we are approached by a Casting Director looking for younger children, with your permission we would help them to audition for professional work should the opportunity arise.
Main School (6-18 Years)
Our main school is for students aged 6 to 18.? Here students are arranged into groups by age and every week have 1 hour each of drama, singing and dance lessons. They not only learn to act, sing and dance, but at the same time their self confidence grows, they learn to work as a team, to use and stretch their imagination, to speak clearly and confidently, and so much more!
Our main school students perform at least twice a year – once in our Christmas Concert, and also in a fully staged musical at the end of each academic year. Previous shows include “The Wiz” and “Moby Dick – The Musical!” both at our local professional theatre Loughborough Town Hall. Our third production is the family favourite “Annie”, at Loughborough Town Hall on Sunday 29th of June at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets for “Annie” are now on sale – please call 01509 646 647 or email tickets@brightlightstheatreschool.com to book.

We have access to a unique family archive dating back over 400 years, which, thanks to an extensive cataloguing process, we can now share with the wider community. CET is managed by a Board of Trustees , a passionate team of volunteers and supported by a small part-time Executive team.

We have a 50 year lease on the buildings and archives from the Cotesbach Family Trust and our site comprises a restored Georgian Grade II listed Schoolhouse, toilets within the Victorian milking parlour, archive storage inside the Victorian coach house and a new café/teaching space constructed in oak and glass.

Our Outputs
• Delivering school and community group visit days and activities

D-Tour Theatre Company

D-Tour Theatre Company

St Mary's Community Centre, St Mary's Road, Hinckley LE10 0JN

We all started out in Hinckley, Leicestershire (Yes, that’s the county with the 2016 Premier League Champions are based). We all have a passion to perform and have appeared in One Act play festivals for many years, winning nearly every award going. After performing so well we are disappointed that only the few that attend festivals and our own loyal local audience get to see us.
Well 'If the mountain can't come to us', we had to come to you!
We decided to form a group specifically to tour venues that allow amateur theatre groups to perform and are within travelling distance of Hinckley.
Our experience from the One Act Play Festivals means we have a range of plays that can be performed on a small to a large stage with minimal set and maximum laughter.

Gasleak Theatre Company

Melton Mowbray

GASLEAK is an acronym, standing for Gilbert and Sullivan, Light Entertainment and Kids.
We set out in 1987 to have a Company that had no formal structure, no Committees, no AGMs, just a group of people who would get together on an ad hoc basis to present as wide a variety of shows as possible, participation being open to all regardless of experience. By and large, that\’s how it has continued, although the casting of one or two productions has been by invitation.
Our themes have been, firstly, G & S- at first, fairly traditional presentations, but then developing into our own versions, bringing the lib and settings up to date while not interfering with the music. Other Societies have performed those versions, with great success and enjoyment.
Secondly, Light Entertainment, in the form of Revue (usually for charity), and in the form of some of the lighter musicals, and lately by way of presentation of stage versions of TV sitcoms. Thirdly, we have made a point of encouraging youngsters to enjoy the magic of theatrical experience by participating in shows specifically featuring children, and by joining in other works where they could learn by working alongside adults.
For all enquiries about this our show, or if you wish to know more about Gasleak or you wish to join us than please get in touch by contacting David Irving via telephone on 01664 560407 or email him.

Lansdowne Drama Workshop

Meeting on Tuesday evening 7pm-9pm at St Andrew's Church Hall, Old Church Street, Aylestone. The over all philosophy of Lansdowne is aimed at the individual member interacting within the group, learning through the art of drama, skills of theatre which are also transferable skills of life.
We hold no auditions as through weekly workshops we learn about ourselves, and each other, which enables the work we produce to be automatically cast. We use the 'talent' that each member brings, to discover skills that they may not know they have.
Any person over the age of 16 is welcome to join Lansdowne, a cohort which is under catered for in this form of drama training. Many young people having left school find that when they reach the age of 18 opportunities are severely limited.
Weekly sessions include improvisation, role play, workshops in voice and movement, children's theatre, mime, creative drama, music hall, stage management, individual tuition and drama for self development. Opportunity will be available to attain Arts Awards.
Lansdowne was formed and funded in 1966 by the Leicester Youth Service in response to 1960 Albemarle report. Funding continued until the mid 1990s and from 1970 until 2004 under the leadership of Anne Payne. Dee Cleaver took over the leadership role upon Anne’s retirement followed by Clive Ward who attained LAMDA Gold medal Acting through Lansdowne and has since gained a Master of Arts Degree in Drama.

LAPC host three productions each year, in March four one act plays which then go on to the Leicestershire or Warwickshire One act play festival, May and November the main productions. The group also hosts murder mystery evenings and a review show featuring sketches, songs monologues or anything else they can add every four years with a meal.
We are friends with a number of groups in the local area and members often appear in their productions. To keep things going between productions we also host a number of social events that members are welcome to attend. LAPC meet on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoons.
The group has a thriving Youth Theatre for 13 -17 year olds which meets on a Saturday morning to enjoy, theatre workshops. For those that wish to appear in the one act play festival LAPC encourages participation but this is always at each member’s discretion.
Like most groups we also need behind the scenes people such as Directors, Producers, lighting and sound, publicity, set designers, builders and decorators. We also need a regular crew to provide front of house and look after the audience. Whatever your talent there is a place for you within LAPC.

Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society

Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society

LAOS first started performing in Loughborough in 1895, officially registering with NODA in 1899 for our production of Agetha. This took place in the local church hall where carriages were available to take you home from 10:15pm sharp!
Over the following decades LAOS performed in a number of venues across the town and under a variety of names, Finally settling on Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society in 1939.
Our 1914 show of King Hal was particularly popular. It had a cast of 60 Adults and tickets cost between 6 Pence and 3 Shillings. That's approximately 21/2 to 15p today!
Unfortunatly, due to inflation that had to change, but one thing that hasn't changed is out tradition of "Keeping it in the Family". In King Hal there were 7 sets of sisters, mothers and daughters!

We are the theatre society based at the University. As well as producing a variety of shows we also aim to develop the skills and abilities of our members through our other opportunities. We use our Proteus workshops as a chance for our aspiring actors, directors and writers to collaborate outside of the larger productions and to work in a smaller time frame to create short ten/fifteen minute pieces, which have in the past been taken elsewhere; for example the Leicester Comedy Festival and more recently as part of a programme of events at the Y theatre at the YMCA in Leicester.
Our Open House explores different styles and types of theatre ranging from the pantomime of Commedia Dell'Arte to the epic theatre of Bertolt Brecht and back to the naturalism of Stanislavski and gives our members the chance to develop their own interests within theatre. Our newest venture, our show choir, aka The Muses has given our members the opportunity of indulging in musical theatre as well as other genres of music and performing some good old jazz hands.
In addition to these we are continuously aiming to develop and broaden our outreach programmes, which mainly consists of taking theatre to local schools and helping them with their own productions and increasing their skills and interest in drama.
We are always looking for more opportunities to demonstrate our work as well as form relationships with other theatre groups, so please contact us and for more information check out our website!
