Bacup Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society

Bacup Amateur Operatic Dramatic Society (B.A.O.D.S.) was formed at an extraordinary general meeting called by Waterside Amateur Operatic Dramatic Society (W.A.O.D.S.). Following the success of W.A.O.D.S. production of Quaker Girl in November 1935 the society membership had grown with many new members, a lot of whom were not connected with the Waterside Church. It was proposed and seconded that the name of the Society should be changed to Bacup Amateur Operatic Dramatic Society. Voting took place with 37 members for the change and 33 against.
In 1969 B.A.O.D.S. negotiated the purchase of the Royal Court Theatre and a company was set up to administer the theatre on behalf of the Society.
Bacup Operatic and Dramatic Company Limited is the company behind BAODS that runs the theatre, keeping it open for the society as well as the youth section (BYTES), and other visiting one night shows.

Bolton Festival Choir and Orchestra

Bolton Festival Choir was established in 1994, with the aim of offering local singers the opportunity to perform works that they were unlikely to sing with their own choirs, and to learn music in a relatively short time.
Some members of the choir come from a considerable distance, whilst others are members of regular Bolton choirs.
The choir has been formally constituted as an independent voluntary organisation - a major step financially, and one reflecting its wish to present some of the most exciting music making in Bolton.
Bolton Festival Orchestra is also drawn from a wide geographical area, and comprises talented, experienced players keen to learn challenging repertoire on a tight rehearsal schedule. New members of both choir and orchestra are always welcome. Rehearsals take place in August.

Adult Comedy Cabaret
Age Range: 18
Rehearsals: Wednesdays Weekly
The group is different to other "Am-Dram" groups and societies in the sense that we do not concentrate on one particular show per season.
Rather, we create a cabaret style show, showcasing acting, singing and dancing mixed with a high degree of comedy. We like to twist things up a little !
Leading roles only exist if required, and when required we like to rotate who takes them, this way we eliminate any "favourites" syndrome. It also allows for greater diversity within each project, the members can set their own goals of what they would like to acheive, and the teachers are tasked with preparing each member to acheive that goal.
Supported by professional industry teachers, each rehearsal and performance really does have a professional edge and quality about it. Our teachers have worked extensivley in the cabaret arena both with professional and amateur groups previously, all reaching a high degree of success on every level.
