We built, own and run the Abbey Theatre and – as its resident company – usually perform ten productions each season. We’re noted for our range, so expect everything from broad comedies right through to experimental productions that will make even the most sophisticated dramaphile stop and think.
If you’d like to join, get in touch. Apart from opportunities to perform, there are lots of other activities to take up and many social events at which to meet local, like-minded people.

The Company of Players

Hertford

The COMPANY of PLAYERS was formed in 1962. We have been based at The Little Theatre in Balfour Street, Hertford since 1969, where we now perform five productions a season. Each production runs for eight performances, and although the Theatre seats just 63 people we average around 90% ticket sales. The Company also regularly performs at Hertford Theatre Week, where we have won many awards over the last 35 years, most recently as Winners in 2011 and Runners-up in both 2010 and 2009.
You do not need to be a member to audition, but if cast, then you would need to join the group (only £15 a year).
The Company of Players is a private theatre club, which is why we do not advertise our productions and why tickets can only be obtained through members.
For details of membership you can contact:-
Shirley Howlett, The Little Theatre, 6 Christchurch Place, Balfour Street, HERTFORD SG14 3BB
You can email us
See our website for more info on the company, or phone Andrew Lee 01920 463612 or email for a chat.

The Vale Musical Society
Facebook

Tring

Previously know as “The Vale Gilbert and Sullivan Society” we mounted our first amateur production - ‘Trial by Jury’ - in 1969 in the Victoria Hall, Tring.
Some of the founder members who appeared in that performance more than 40 years ago are still taking part in our shows, and casts for our productions often include a range of ages from nine to (almost) 90 years.
We are a friendly and lively local company who provide great musical entertainment.
While starting as a Gilbert and Sullivan Society, we obviously do our fair share of G&S, but we have tackled a wide range of other material and will continue to do so.
Most of our performances in recent years have been at the Court Theatre, Tring, but we have taken some recent shows out to smaller local venues.
We are proud to be affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA)
If you think you would enjoy acting, singing, dancing, creating sets and scenery, working backstage or front or house, we would be delighted to welcome you aboard.

Baldock / Letchworth Garden City

A great number of ideas are born over a few drinks in the pub and Variety Express's birth was no exception!
In 1980 a few people, several of whom had previously been involved in amateur theatre productions, suggested forming a new entertainment group. They thought a combination of singing and dancing with a little comedy thrown in would be a good recipe. This group could perform locally and hopefully be able to raise some much needed money for local charities.
The proceeds of that first show, some £200, were tripled the following year and have increased substantially ever since. In fact, since its conception back in 1980, Variety Express has donated over £90,000 to charities including nursing homes, Lister Hospital and dozens of specialist care organisations
Variety Express is still going strong and involves a team of well over 30 members with each person providing an essential role, from back stage 'hands on deck' to sound and lighting technicians, and of course there's the cast!
Variety Express has come a long way in its thirty year history and our aim is to provide a fabulous evening's entertainment, at a very reasonable price, and most importantly to provide our chosen charities with the biggest donation we can!

Water Lane Theatre Group

Facebook  Twitter

Bishop's Stortford

Water Lane produce three plays per year which include a children\’s play performed at Rhodes Centre in Jan/Feb with a large cast of adults and children, and the opportunity to produce creative sets, an outdoor production in June/July which has in recent years been performed in the Monastery Gardens on Windhill and is usually a Shakespeare comedy and then in Oct/Nov we return to Rhodes for an autumn play.
We work hard at our productions because we always believe in putting on the best show we can, but this doesn’t stop us having a great time in the process. The group is made up of long-standing, new and returning members who may take the lead role in one production and be back stage for the next or taking a minor role. We are a relaxed and friendly group and we hope welcoming. We pride ourselves on being a bunch of like minded people who are prepared to muck in on stage, back stage and at our various social events; no luvvidom here!
We always need more people to tread the boards, but if getting in front of an audience isn’t your thing then why not help out backstage with set, costumes, make-up, sound, lighting, prompt...the list is endless. If you would like to act and help backstage that’s fine too as we find that many of our members like to ring the changes in the level of their participation.
Auditions are quite relaxed affairs too so why not choose a production from our forthcoming show list and come along we will be very happy to welcome you.

Whitwell Players

Whitwell

Drama, Comedy, One Acts and Panto
Age Range: All ages
The Whitwell Players are a local amateur dramatic group who get together in their spare time to put on three or four productions a year - a play in the spring, two one-act plays with a dinner in the autumn and a pantomime, timed for the run up to Christmas.
Occasionally we also produce something quite different, such as the memorable outdoor production of A Midsummer Nights Dream set in the grounds of the Bury at St Pauls Walden. We are always seeking new members and encourage everyone to try their hand both front and back stage. We not only need actors, but front of house, lighting, sound, stage hands and wardrobe and makeup help. In other words, whatever skills you have, you will find your niche and you will be very welcome!
