Painswick Players

Painswick

In recent years Painswick Players have acquired a reputation for innovative productions with minimal staging, often on a thrust stage or performed in the round. We have two major performances each year, in the Spring and Autumn, and these are usually at the Painswick Centre where we have a full size stage and our own technical facilities.
Painswick Players hold regular play readings, for entertainment and to encourage new members; we have arranged workshops (open to non-members), run by professionals; and we have a programme of social events, including theatre visits.
We are always looking for new members – either as actors, stage crew, front-of-house or simply supporters. Further details and an application form are to be found on our website

Our Theatre
Cadbury Hall, Lake Lane, Frampton on Severn, Gloucester GL2 7HG

Perryway Players were formed on 16th November 1937 by the amalgamation of several smaller amateur dramatic groups and initially called themselves Frampton and District Amateur Dramatic Society. After a couple of meetings it was decided that the name was too cumbersome and a shorter name would be more appropriate.
After several suggestions including the Severn Bores, it was decided the name should be Perryway Players. The first production was performed in February 1938 - Toby Jug, After The Event/Moment Musical & Poison Party. There were further productions each year until 1941 when meetings stopped because of the war.
From records it appears that the group reformed in 1946 but there are no mention of productions again until 1951. The first full length play to be performed was Young Mrs. Barrington in 1954, thereafter two productions of plays each year until 1975 when the annual pantomime was introduced. Since then there has usually been two dramatic productions, one in Spring and the other in Autumn and the pantomime in January.
It’s a fun group, with varied activities, ranging from improvisation sessions, games, workshops, rehearsals and summer shows out and about at local venues. You may have seen us at Wick Court or Saul Lodge, not so long ago…….
Its hard work, but really good fun with everyone in the team working together. We all get such a buzz when performing, just ask any one of the youngsters.
So if you fancy coming along on a Tuesday evening, please do, we are always happy to welcome newcomers.
If you are interested to join in - acting, backstage or just buying us drinks and sweets, contact our chairman Craig Hunt 07583024916 or secretary is Rachel McKie on 07876 680298 or admin@perrywayplayers.com or via website or social media

There are umpteen roles or jobs associated with putting on a production aside from "simply" acting or treading the boards ...
Set building and breaking - an opportunity to vent some frustration!
Scenery painting - splash it all about!
Lighting and Sound - lots of flashing lights and noise!
Costumes & Props - sew? ... does my rear look big in this?
Front of House, manning bar, raffles, etc. meeting and greeting.
Production and Direction - really get your teeth into a production.
Marketing - ensuring we always play to full houses, promoting the Players, etc.
and of course - there's always acting!
... and so on ...
Please fill in the form on our website

Tewkesbury Amateur Dramatic Society

Facebook  Twitter

Tewkesbury

TADS was formed over 30 years ago as Tewkesbury Amateur Dramatic Society with the aim of providing drama for the enjoyment of it members and the community at large, and to widen the society members' knowledge of all aspects of drama. The Society has seen a number of changes over the years, but the aims of the Society remain the same to this day.
In May 2008 the name of the society was changed to Tewkesbury Arts & Drama Society.
TADS is always pleased to welcome new members to add to the ranks. Both young and old, experienced or novice are welcome to come along and meet the Society's members at any of our rehearsals or meetings. In addition to the actors and actresses needed for our productions, we always have many posts to fill for the backstage crew. These posts include: Marketting, Stage Management, Rehearsal Prompt, Properties, Lighting & Sound, Costumes, Set design & construction, Front of House, etc.
TADS does not set any qualifications or requirements for membership: if you want to join us that is qualification enough. However membership does not confer any right to be in a production; auditions are held for members of the cast of our productions.
TADS is run by all of its members; there is no committee or cabal running it. All decisions are made at the monthly meetings. Become a member and turn up at the meeting and you have as much say as the whizzened old-timer in the corner.
TADS perform all types of productions, from comedies and musicals to drama and the classics, but with an emphasis on drama. The society performs at the local One Act play festivals, usually presenting plays written by our members.
TADS members who are involved with a production for the first time are often surprised at the amount of fun we have producing plays to the high standards we set ourselves. Whether it is a small production with just our vastly experienced trained actors, a community performance with children and first time actors (or the usual something in between these extremes) we always aim for the highest standard of production. It should also be noted that involvement in our productions is a lot of hard work at times, both during rehearsals and at home.
TADS rehearsals are usually held twice a week.
TADS also organise other events such as visits to other companies' productions, or just trips to the local chippy.....

The Cotswold Savoyards

Twitter

Cheltenham

The Cotswold Savoyards was formed in 1962 to produce the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. We have presented staged versions of all 13 surviving operas, a reconstruction of Thespis, and other operettas by Sullivan, Lehar, Offenbach and Strauss. Over the past few years we have widened our repertoire to include shows such as Salad Days, Sweeney Todd, Candide, Into the Woods, and Scrooge, the Musical. Approximately half our shows are now Gilbert and Sullivan, and half from other composers.
We stage two productions per year, each running for a week; one at Cheltenham's amateur theatre, The Playhouse, which seats just over 200 people, the other at the town's professional theatre, The Everyman, which seats over 600.
We are always willing to consider requests from other organisations to stage concerts on behalf of charity. We can produce a short cabaret by a small group of singers or a whole evening's entertainment with full chorus. Concerts in the past have included a staged and costumed performance of Trial by Jury in Gloucester Crown Court and a Sullivan Centenary Concert at Cheltenham Town Hall.
The society is always keen to attract new members, whether as singers or as helpers in some capacity. We are always pleased to see new faces on (and off) stage. In addition to our regular productions, we organise a variety of social events and you would be made most welcome.
The Society is keen to attract new members whether as singers or helpers in some capacity. We are always very pleased to see new faces on stage - particularly young ones. The main qualifications are a love of Gilbert and Sullivan and some time to spare.
We were delighted to have five new singing members for the last show, the youngest of whom was sixteen.
Rehearsals for shows and concerts typically take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with additional ones sometimes scheduled for principals on Wednesdays. Rehearsals take place at Charlton Kings Infants School hall (see directions). Anyone who's interested is also most welcome to join us in the pub afterwards!
There are two shows a year, alternately at the Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, each running for a full week, plus a number of concerts. Some members participate in everything that's going, and others choose a smaller number of shows and/or concerts to join in.
For more information, please contact our Secretary, Elizabeth Organ, at Harcourt, Selkirk Close, Pittville, Cheltenham GL52 2QN. secretary@cotswoldsavoyards.org

Gloucester

The Hardwicke Players were formed in November 2004 by friends Claire Chapman, Steve Mills, Richard Edwards, Chris Sellars and Chris Paterson.

‘For the community, by the community’.

The group’s aim is two-fold: to perform original productions for the local community and at the same time, raise money for Gloucestershire charities.

The Hardwicke Players performed for the very first time at Quedgeley Village Hall in January 2006 when they took to the stage with their New Year pantomime, The Merchants of Gloucester, for which the group raised £900 for the Gloucester & District Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society.

We have since gone from strength to strength, and to date, have raised over £3,000 for local charities. We now perform twice a year, an annual January pantomime and a summer comedy show and the group have been delighted to find a new home at the Kings Theatre in Gloucester.

The Hardwicke Players are always looking to welcome new members to the group in any capacity, whether it is acting, stage design, prop and costume making or backstage roles. If you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us info@hardwicke-players.co.uk

The Riverside Players

Gloucestershire

The Riverside Players are a unique amateur theatre company. It was formed in 1951 by former students of the Central School of Speech and Drama in order to take a play touring in the summer holidays. The idea became an annual fixture, incorporating the friends and families of those originally involved, and expanding to the point at which moving about the country became impracticable.
The “tour”, as it is still known, has now become a fortnight’s stay in one place – over the years: Culham, Stamford, Bognor, Bloxham, Pangbourne, Chipping Norton and Windsor. We have also taken productions to Copenhagen. This year we are performing in the lovely grounds of Rendcomb College.
