Originally the St Barnabas Players, a church based group founded in 1956, the Crown Players took their present name in 1993. From their origins in playing both sacred and secular drama, the Players have now moved to include more musical elements in their productions.
In addition to comedies and thrillers, the society regularly mounts a pantomime (most recent ones being written by a member). With ventures into music hall and old tyme variety, the Crown Players now have a thriving and popular concert party which entertains those unable to get out to the theatre.
Members of the society were prominent amongst those establishing and refurbishing The Kings Theatre in 1987 and they have a strong representation on its management committee.
As with all groups, new members are always welcome, whatever their level of expertise or experience. With three shows a year at the Theatre and other regular ventures, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
The Crown Players perforn 3 productions a year with a pantomime every other year written by members of the Crown Players. We welcome everyone from 16 - 90+, either sex and all levels of experience.
For all enquiries, whether wanting to see our shows or being part of the team - ...either on or off stage!
We welcome everyone from the age of 16 + to join us regardless of experience or ability.

GODS - Gloucester Operatic and Dramatic Society

Gloucester

The G.O.D.S was founded in 1914 as the Gloucester Amateur Operatic Society and for the first twenty one years of its existence it performed one Operetta each year (usually a Gilbert and Sullivan) at various theatres throughout the city. The society presented its first straight play in 1936 when it dropped the word \‘Amateur\’ and added \‘Dramatic\’ to its title. Activities were suspended during the Second World War although several members who were in reserved occupations continued to perform concerts for the troops and for factory workers. The society is now fast approaching its 100 year anniversary and what a bright future is ahead. We have secured a new home at the Conservative Club in the city centre where there is ample rehearsal space and access to the members bar to enable the society to meet, socialise and plan forthcoming events. We are looking forward to a bright new future and new members are always welcome. We hope that you join us in this new and exciting chapter in the history of the Gloucester Operatic and Dramatic Society.
