Clacton

Clacton Amateur Dramatic Society is 100% voluntary and is run by a Management Committee. All the money that is made from their productions is reinvested in the society to produce further plays. CADS would not be possible without the dedication of all the members who build sets, make costumes, produce marketing, arrange plays, direct plays, act in plays plus anything else that is required by the society. Everyone involved pays a yearly fee and is committed to producing high quality plays for all to enjoy.
CADS belong to NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) which was founded in 1899 and is the main representative body for amateur theatre in the UK, supporting local groups like ours in a number of different ways to achieve the highest standard of production. NODA operates through 11 regional councils and CADS, who have been a member for many years, is in the Eastern region.
Some people may think that amateur dramatics is no longer the driving force it used to be in theatre and as such is somewhat outdated, but that is far from the case. Here in the East, NODA has over 280 members competing to be the best and the "friendly" competition makes sure we are kept on our toes as each year we strive to win our own local "awards".
We are pleased to report, amateur theatre is most definitely alive and well and flourishing in East Anglia!!

Clacton

Chairman: Sam McCarthy 07585440815 chairman@c-m-t-s.co.uk
Clacton Operatic Society first graced the stage in 1930 performing Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. Gilbert and Sullivan musicals continued to be performed by the Society up until World War II.
Following the war the Society began performing some of the musicals we still enjoying staging today. The 1950's saw the introduction of some Rodgers and Hammerstein favourites such as Oklahoma and Carousel. The 1951 production of The Maid of the Mountains saw the first performance of our current President and Honorary Life Member, Edna Mountstephen. Edna has performed many principal roles, most recently as General Cartright in the 2009 production of Guys and Dolls.
Over the years the society has seen several variations to its name which have included the terms "operatic" and "musical comedy". Following a recent rebranding exercise involving the members of the society it was decided that a name change was needed. We felt that 'Clacton Amateur Operatic Society' no longer reflected our style of performance and instead our name should include the word "musical", so on 1 September 2009 'Clacton Musical Theatre Society' was born.
September 2009 also saw a change in the Management Committee. Following 17 years as Chairman, Edna Mountstephen handed over the reins to Vice Chairman, Sam McCarthy.
Even after 81 years of staging musicals, we are still continuing to make history.
As the Society continues to evolve we look forward to what we hope will be a successful new decade for Clacton Musical Theatre Society.
We are always looking for new Members to join our ‘Family’. Anyone aged 7 and over, any ability can come and join the madness!
If you do not want to be onstage; why not come and give a hand Backstage, Front of House, Wardrobe, Make Up, Props, Sound or Lighting?

publicity@c-m-t-s.co.uk
We are a charity that puts on a Musical in June, a Pantomime in January and a variety concert at the end of February. Also our ‘Youth Performers’ put on a Show in April and a Variety Concert in October every year. We are always looking for members of all ages to join us either onstage, back stage, front of house, helping make scenery, costumes or props. The list of jobs is endless. We also have many Social events that go on throughtout the year. We have a large set of Costumes that we are willing to hire out. Colchester

We are one of the region's oldest musical theatre companies and perform annually to rave reviews. Founded in 1924, the Society has gone from strength to strength and boasts a membership of over 150 people.
We currently produce two main shows a year - one, two week run in the early year by our members aged 16 and over, and another, one week run by our junior members aged 11 - 23.
In addition we also perform our annual spring concert at a variety of venues throughout Colchester. We are also often in demand at smaller functions such as fundraising events, carol singing and one off performances.
As well as a strong COS membership, our junior members group, known collectively as 'CO2' (Colchester Operatic Society Second Edition) is incredibly popular and the Society prides itself on the number of young people who have gone on from CO2, through COS and on to form successful careers within the theatrical industry. Many of these are currently performing on West End stages and on your TV screens!
Nevertheless, the dream of a future career in theatre is not a pre-requisite for joining the Society - for many of our members it is being part of an exciting theatrical project that interests them. Whether your forte is acting, dancing, singing or assisting in other aspects of the production, there is something for you in COS.
In addition to our on-stage activities, the Society hosts a number of social events throughout the year. These range from quizzes and workshops to formal dinner-dances, summer BBQs and much more.
The Executive Committee (made up from elected members of the Society) also produces a quarterly newsletter 'StageStruck' which, as well as our website, keeps members informed of events that are planned and reviews of past activities.
Keeping in touch or finding out information has never been so easy - our website covers everything you need to know about the Society, and our Contacts page is designed to give you the details of people to ask any burning questions!
Your level of committment to the Society can be as little or as much as you want - many of our non-acting members prefer just to help out during the run of a show, whilst our performing members abviously commit a significantly greater amount of time to evening rehearsala and the occasional weekend rehearsal.
Whatever your age and ability, Colchester Operatic Society offers challenging, rewarding and above all FUN activities for individuals, couples and entire families in Colchester, with an emphasis on musical theatre.
Get in touch and find out how you can get involved!

Since 1976, the Society has also presented ad hoc performances of Old Tyme Music Hall and themed revues and concerts. These have been first presented at the College and then taken to other venues at the request of different organisations. The majority of these performance are for charities and, as costs are forever rising for our own main productions, we are more than pleased to be able to offer our time rather than money to good causes.
