The Society was formed in 1936 as Sale Operatic and Dramatic Society and our aim was to bring top-quality musical theatre at affordable prices to the local community. Over 70 years later we are still going strong. Our regular performing venues are the Altrincham Garrick Theatre and the Club Theatre. We produce two shows per year, in Spring and Autumn, presenting a varied repertoire, mostly slanted towards modern musicals but not forgetting the more traditional operettas. In 2000 the society name changed to Sale And Altrincham Musical Theatre, (Sam Theatre as it's affectionately known) to reflect the modernisation of the society.
Since our inception in 1972 we have been enthusiastically performing the works of Sir W. S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan. We rehearse in Sale, Cheshire, England and perform most of our full scale productions at the Altrincham, Garrick Playhouse.
Our regular Stage Director is Alistair Donkin - Ex 'patter' man from the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company......
We are a small, dedicated group of people who love to put on traditional Gilbert and Sullivan productions. Come and see us for yourselves and have a great night.
If you would like to become more closely involved with the Society, you may like to become a Member or a Patron. The Society rehearse every Wednesday evening at the United Reformed Church, Montague Road, Sale, Cheshire where singers in all voice sections are always welcome.

We were formed in 1941 and until 1999 were known as the Cestrian Male Voice Choir.
The Choir has established itself, both nationally and internationally, as a major force in the world of male voice choirs. Our motto is ‘We Sing to Serve’ and over the years we have raised many thousands of pounds for charitable and other good causes.
Come and Join Us - We Are Looking New Members
We are actively seeking new singing members and anyone who thinks they might be interested is invited to come along to one of our rehearsals, particularly in January, February and March but at any time during the year. You’ll see who we are, (we’re a friendly, likeable bunch of ordinary guys!) what we do and how we do it.
You can just sit and listen at the back of the hall without any pressure or obligation or you can, when you feel comfortable, sit in and have a go with the help of an experienced member. The benefit of coming along at this time of year is that we will be learning some new music from scratch and we are all therefore equally incompetent at the start of the process!
You do NOT have to read music; it helps of course if you do, but most of us don’t / didn’t and you’ll quickly learn the basics that help understanding. You just need to enjoy singing and be able to sing in tune. There are no auditions, just find your voice and join in.Rehearsals are held at Hamilton Street Methodist Church Hall, Hoole, Chester, CH2 3HZ on Sundays from 7.45 and Wednesdays from 7.30 commencing from 8th January. Just turn up to a rehearsal a few minutes beforehand and we’ll make you very welcome.
If you’d like to speak to someone or get more information beforehand we’d be more than happy to speak to you - please contact us here

In February each year there is a Pantomime where children from the age of 7 experience the fun of appearing on stage with adult group members.
Rehearsals begin in October, and as the performances approach there are practices on Sunday afternoons.
