A triumph...deeply affecting...profoundly rewarding (THE SUNDAY TRIBUNE)
The Mai's eldest daughter...fuses past and present, history and lore into a story as intimate, unique, disturbing, affectionate and recognisable as all family stories (JOCELYN CLARKE)
The Playwright Marina Carr grew up in County Offaly in the Irish Midlands in a literary household - father a novelist and playwright, mother a poet. As a child she read children's versions of Greek Myths and these became major influences in many of her later works. She is prominent at the moment having written a version of Hecuba, Euripides' Greek tragedy, for the RSC. It is presently in performance in The Swan Theatre, Stratford.
The Play Set in the Irish Midlands, The Mai was first performed in Dublin in 1994 and won the Dublin Theatre Festival Best New Irish Play Award. In essence, the play explores the hopes and disappointments of four generations of of women within one Irish family. It stages the memories of Millie, The Mai's daughter. The adult Millie narrates the drama performed on stage but participates in the action as a teenager and reconstructs the summer of 1979, when The Mai's estranged husband returns after a 5 year absence and the summer of 1980, when the marriage has disintegrated again. The Mai is the story of the quest for love and depicts the loss of love, romantic and familial.

Cabaret
Contact: Please click here for further details.
Audition: Sunday 8 November, 7.30pm Cabaret will be performed at The Lund Theatre, UCS, Frognal, NW3 6XH on 16-20 February.
Set in Berlin in 1931 as the Nazis are rising to power, Cabaret follows the nightlife at the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy and kitsch establishment, and revolves around English cabaret performer, Sally Bowles, and her relationship with the young American writer, Clifford Bradshaw.
Inside the Kit Kat Klub, 'life is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, even the orchestra is beautiful'. In the real world, life is very different as the shadow of oppression deepens and darkens inexorably. A sub-plot involves the doomed romance between German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her elderly suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor. Overseeing all the action is the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub. The club serves as a metaphor for the ominous political developments in the late Weimar Germany.
Cabaret is a musical and all roles need to both sing and dance to a greater or lesser extent. You do not have to be professionally trained for either but you do need to be able to carry a tune and not have two left feet.
If you are interested in auditioning, please prepare a short monologue of your choice, ideally something which is related to the show itself. This must be no more than 2 minutes in length. You do not need to learn this by heart, unless you'd like to.
Carrie (musical director) will teach you a song from the show and Emma (choreography) a short dance. If you can familiarise yourself with the characters and musical numbers in advance, that would be an advantage.

Auditions: Mon 23rd November at 7:45pm Production Dates: Wed 13 to Sat 16 April 2016
A moving, warm-hearted drama, with touches of humour. Well-written. It is set in World War II, January 1942, at a theatre in the English Provinces. It concerns a troupe touring in the blitz bringing Shakespeare to the masses. They are led the SIR – ailing, lead in all the plays, seeing himself in the mould of the great actor managers and refusing to acknowledge his own frailty and the dingy 2nd rate reality of their theatrical lives. Accompanied by HER LADYSHIP (not really his wife, not a Lady (he a Sir)) who has supported him over many years though regrets a life in the US in the movies that she passed over for him. Still playing the juvenile leads in her 50s/60s. Sir is supported by NORMAN, the camp, slightly alcoholic dresser. Loyal to the end (literally), always full of the theatrical quip and an acid tongue. There is MADGE the ever-faithful stage manager, actually in love with Sir, fiercely loyal too, often at loggerheads with Norman. IRENE is the slightly flirty ingénue actress who Sir certainly has taken a shine to, and which she plays up to to further her career. It being the war, the accompanying male actors are a motley crew, who could not get into the forces for one reason or another; old school GEOFFREY THORNTON, limping left-wing MR OXENBY. There are also a few other actors playing parts in the offstage ‘King Lear’ that we hear. At the start SIR is lost, seen in town in a frenzy, confused. Will the show have to be cancelled? Normal coaxes him gently into his make-up and his costume – though he is still often confused about which play they are playing tonight – and what any of the lines are. But in the end – the adrenaline kicks in and SIR launches into the part, as the bombs begin to fall. The show must go on whatever! We see the backstage machinations. Then an exhausted SIR is resting. We hear more of his life, Her Ladyship’s dreams, before launching into the Storm scene – with all hands on deck backstage to make the storm effect – drums and wind machines etc. We speed on though the play to see Lear holding the dead body of Cordelia. The ‘play’ ends. Sir comes offstage, rests and as Norman prepares a cup of tea for him, he quietly dies in his dressing room. He is draped in Lear’s coat. Norman selfishly bewails what will become of himself now….. Large Leads: Sir (late50s/60s) and Norman (40+) Medium Leads: Her Ladyship (50s/60s), Madge (40s/50s). Smaller Parts: Irene (20s), Mr Thornton (50s/60s), Mr Oxenby (20s/30s) Cameo: Parts in offstage Lear (probably pre-recorded) In total cast of 7 + 3 or 4 extras. 4M + 3W

In this new stage adaptation of the timeless television series, Foggy, Clegg and Compo are reunited for one last adventure. Foggy has designs on winning the affections of Constance, Nora Batty’s niece and the long-suffering fiancée of the hapless Gifford Bewmont. With the help of Clegg, Foggy invites the ladies around for an evening’s entertainment but the duo are unaware that a mysterious flasher is stalking the local community. Gifford has pledged to apprehend the flasher and has mounted all-night patrols in the village. While awaiting the arrival of the ladies, Foggy is dismayed when Compo turns up unannounced and who proceeds to wreak havoc on Foggy’s careful preparations as Gifford’s efforts to capture the flasher lead to mistaken identities and even more chaos. When the flasher is eventually unmasked it turns out his intentions are benign but not before our heros are nearly undone by the enveloping madness.

"He is coming. Faster. Faster. Faster. Remember, first you have to invite him in...."
The fabled figures of Jonathan Harker, the archetypal innocent abroad; Mina Westerman, his anxious fiancee and her carefree sister, Lucy; the insane Renfield with his foretellings of terror; the dedicated psychiatrist Arthur Seward, pitched into an adventure far beyond his professional experience; the implacable vampire hunter Van Helsing and, of course, Count Dracula himself are brought brilliantly to life (or the undead) in this adaptation for the stage which sticks refreshingly close to Bram Stoker's original while grounding the whole story in a believable reality. First staged at the Edinburgh Lyceum in 1985 this is a thrilling adaptation of madness, sensuality and Gothic horror from one of Britain's leading poet/dramatists.
CHARACTERS Jonathan Harker – 20s/30s, a property lawyer, engaged to Mina Westerman Mina Westerman – 20s/30s, Harker's fiancée Lucy Westerman – Teens/20s, Mina's sister and Seward's fiancée Arthur Seward – 20s/30s, a doctor at Stoneyfields Asylum treating Renfield Count Dracula – 40s+, Eastern European Count and vampire Van Hessling – 50s, Dutch doctor, swarn enemy of Dracula, hero Florrie Heathersage – Teens/20s, the Westerman's servant at their house Miss Manners – 40s, housekeeper at Whitby Renfield – 30s, Dracula's former manservant, now patient at Stoneyfields Dr Goodman – 40s, a visiting female psychiatrist at Stoneyfields Grice – 40s/50s, nurse at Stoneyfields Nisbett – 30s, nurse at Stoneyfields Drinkwater – any age, an orderly at the asylum. Contact: DOWNLOAD THE AUDITION NOTICE
Workshop: Monday 12 October, 7pm Auditions: Sunday 25 Oct at 12pm, Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 October at 7pm Recalls: 31 October
One week in July 2005. London feels like the centre of the world. P*rnography is the stark and shattering play by Simon Stephens that captures Britain as it crashes from the euphoria and promise of the 2012 Olympics announcement into the devastation of 7/7. Written in reaction to the events that occurred that fatal day, Pornography offers a kaleidoscopic view of London through 7 different seemingly unrelated stories, from an angry racist teenager besotted with his teacher, to a pair of siblings that enter into an incestuous relationship, and eventually one of the bombers himself on his final journey. “Stephens observes his characters with an almost forensic detachment and yet he makes us love them too. A play of grace and terror” Guardian.

This production is based around Carol Ann Duffy’s adaptations of the tales (written by the Brothers Grimm) and Tim Supple’s dramatisations. The text comes with little or no stage directions, and this leads for an exciting process of working as a team to explore and shape the stories’ different dramatic potential. We have a collection of 5/6 stories to explore that include Hansel & Gretel, Ashputtel (or Cinderella) and The Golden Goose. The stories are enchanting, thrilling, touching and often quite dark…perfect for children and adults alike. I am looking to put together an ensemble of actors that will tell these different stories in an engaging and exciting way. The rehearsal period will involve improvisation and physical exploration of the stories and Tim Supple’s text. There really are a lot of exciting creative opportunities to be discovered. In the first initial rehearsals I want to work as a creative group of actors, director and technical team, to explore the different characters and then decide who will play the different specific roles. I am looking for actors of all ages, actors that would enjoy the nature (and demands) of performing children’s theatre, and actors that will enjoy creating several interesting characters (each cast member may have many different roles).

Peggy For You by Alan Plater
Contact: Click here for further details and audition pieces
Audition: 6 September, 7.30pm Peggy For You will be performed at Upstairs at the Gatehouse on 26-28 November at 7.30pm and 29 November at 4pm
Peggy For You is set in the chaotic office of Peggy Ramsay, the most celebrated theatrical agent of the time. It is a witty, wry, but unsentimental account of this extraordinary larger than life woman who at one time or another was the agent to some of our most renowned playwrights. The action takes place during the course of one day in the late sixties in which we meet three of her fictional clients, all at various points in their careers. Added to this mixture is Peggy's secretary Tessa, a wonderfully bubbly character who somehow manages to juggle all the demands of Peggy and her clients. Alan Plater, who was with Peggy for 30 years, provides an insightful script for five really good parts.

Audition Dates: 9th September, 16th September Performance Dates: w/c 7th December
It's nearly time for the GLOC panto! Auditions will take place after the open rehearsal at St Gabriel’s Halls in Pimlico – 6.45pm on Wednesday 9th September, or on Wednesday 16th September. Email admin@gloc.org to arrange a slot. There are no auditions for chorus parts, just turn up! Details of parts are below: Fairy Godmother (F) - typical panto fairy but has some rapping, fresh prince style. Main songs: Starts of "Cabaret" and also "Pure Imagination" Cinderella (F) - a lovely girl but maybe a bit spunkier than your normal Cinderella. Her friends are Buttons and the birds. She doesn't want to meet the prince but she does want to go to the ball for a dance and some escapism from her terrible life. She loves Buttons but doesn't really realise it until the end. Main song: Price Tag and Three Little Maids. Stepmother (F) - evil. Part Maleficent, part Katie Hopkins. Main song: Female of the Species (by Space). Prince (F). Like Bertie Wooster. Rich and bumbling. Is under pressure to get a wife/princess but doesn't really want one or know why. Main song: It Takes a Woman (from Hello Dolly). Steward (M) - Jeeves. Clever, patient and indulgent of the prince. Main song: It Takes a Woman. Buttons (M) - loveable boy next door. A bit less goofy than the usual Buttons character; Cinderella is in love with him and he with her. Main song: On My Own from Les Mis. Baron Hard Up (M) - Cinderella's father. Ineffectual. A relatively small part but with lines and solo singing. Main songs: bits of Cabaret and One Day More. Ugly Stepsisters (MM) - Sylph and Phyllis. Trashy school girls. Main songs: Three Little Maids

The first batch of auditions was excellent, we have some really good people and some excellent possibilities, but knowing that a number of people couldn’t make these auditions, nothing has been cast as yet and we will still need more people...and that means YOU! There are some really fab parts in this show, from Albert, the melancholy horse, from Wolverhampton, to the mischievous Bunnies, to the gruff, yet Grandfatherly Badger. And remember, apart from the humans in the wide world, it is gender blind. All the animals can be played by a person of either sex! There are small parts available if you just want to do a bit, and bigger parts if you prefer, or a combination of more than one part, as there will be doubling up too! You could be an animal, a human...or both, take your pick! So please come along to the Green Room, between 6pm and 9pm on Sunday 20th September, we can have a chat about it, hear you read a bit and take it from there! Here are the details of the roles: Roles

OPEN AUDITIONS – “ABSURD PERSON SINGULAR”
Banbury Cross Players are delighted to announce Open Auditions for their 2015/16 Season opening production of Alan Ayckbourn’s “Absurd Person Singular” on Thursday 2 July, 8pm at The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury.
Set in three kitchens over three Christmases, the play follows the fortunes of three wildly incompatible couples charting the relentless rise of the socially aspiring Hopcrofts at the expense of two other couples.
Housing developer Sidney Hopcroft wants to make a good impression on his guests. His wife Jane is more interested in making her kitchen spotless. The party peters out when she gets herself locked out of the house.
Architect Geoffrey Jackson and his pill-popping wife, Eva, aren’t at all prepared. Geoffrey has just told Eva he’s leaving her. Her reaction is to try and kill herself - in five different ways!
At the Victorian home of banker Ronald Brewster-Wright and his alcoholic wife, Marion there’s no party in prospect. Ronald’s bank is failing and he can’t afford to heat the house. Meanwhile, Marion is drunk in the bedroom.
Geoffrey and Eva drop by to commiserate, closely followed by Sidney and Jane who are now successful, dressed to the nines and determined to make the upper-class failures dance to their middle-class tune.
ROLES AVAILABLE : Sidney & Jane – late 20s/30s Geoffrey & Eva – 40s Ronald and Marion – 50s

Auditions will be held on the following dates: Friday 3rd July at 7pm in Room One Saturday 4th July at 10am in Room One Performances: 13th to 21st November 2015 | Synopsis: It is 1860. A young woman becomes governess of two orphans. Removed from the world in an idyll of apparent purity, things darken as the governess perceives, or perhaps merely imagines, that the children’s last governess and her Heathcliff-esque lover have returned from the dead to possess the children. Then a darker fear comes into her mind: what if the children are complicit in their corruption? What if they comprehend the presence of these beckoning ghosts, and welcome them? What do the children know? This version was written 60 years ago and was made into a film starring Deborah Kerr. Harold Pinter directed a revival on Broadway in 1976. Of the versions that I have read, this seemed to me to be the truest to Henry James’s beautifully ambiguous original story and, in itself, is a gripping read. The play offers some astonishing opportunities for the whole company. We have to find a way of presenting that most difficult of genres: a ghost story. I’m going to need a strong company of brave people who want to do something different and that company has to include two children – the 'innocents' of the title. Characters: The age of each character is fairly immaterial. Mrs Grose has to be older than Miss Giddens. Miles has to be older than Flora, and each of these roles offers a tremendous and exciting challenge for a young performer who is keen to take a major role. Miss Jessel and Quint have to be sensual beings, but at least there are no lines to learn and their presence will not be required at early rehearsals! I will want to cast folk who look right relative to each other and who can sustain these demanding roles. Mrs Grose – The housekeeper, 40+ Miss Giddens – The governess, 20+ Huge, super role Flora – Ideally, she should look about 8, but just needs to look angelic and younger than Miles Miles – Ideally he should be 12, and definitely a boy, not a man. Quint – The valet. Non-speaking. Miss Jessel – The former governess, 18+. Non speaking I would welcome seeing you at one or other of the auditions, and I would also welcome knowing which you were planning to attend. Please note that, if necessary, there will be a recall on Saturday 11th July at 10am in Room 1. I am aware that, for the children, they are going to need supportive stage parents who understand how the process works and the necessity of rehearsal – probably three times per week. If you are such a parent, and you have a talented child who you are keen to support through the process, please don’t hesitate to ring me to chat the whole thing through. Although we will have a read through before the summer break, rehearsals will start in earnest, hopefully, at the beginning of September. Since we will necessarily have two children in the cast, I may have to rehearse slightly earlier in the evenings than is usual (hence the early time for auditions), and may well have more rehearsals on Friday/Saturday/Sunday than is comfortable!
Creative team: I have already been lucky enough to recruit a super creative team in the making and I am delighted to announce these: Stage Director – Derek Palmer Stage Design – Eric Farlie Lighting Designer – Trevor Wallace Sound and Music – Ian Cullen Costume – Penny Coyston Properties – Sheila Grimmant Production Manager – Sophie Bowman I still need more offers of help backstage, though. In particular – lighting board operator, prompt and ASMs.

She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith Directed by Mick Orme
Contact: info@gardensuburbtheatre.org.uk
Audition: Sunday 14 June 2015 7.30pm Performance Dates Thursday 22 October to Saturday 24 October 2015 at 7.30 pm & Sunday 25 October 2015 at 4 pm
1773. A century since the character of the 'Rake', who was a testosterone-driven gambler, dueller, drinker and womaniser, originally modelled on Charles II, hit the London stage. For once upon a time, truth was, the nobs had it all. But times changed, and playwrights with them. When Goldsmith wrote his 'laughing' comedy, he wanted to diss the toffs who made up his audience, without lecturing them. So She Stoops is witty and wild, urbane but never suburban, saucy but never coarse. Through his characters' earthy, and earthly, desires, he writes to undo prejudice. And celebrate the 'low'.... At heart, it's about two young women and their desires - they, not the men, have all the fun. In fact Kate, the heroine, has never had so much fun in all her life. When she decides upon the hapless Marlow as her life's partner, she dresses up as a servant girl to win his heart (she has heard of his dubious tastes in women....). He's all pomposity and promiscuity on the outside, all shattered nerves within. In contrast, Kate is all light-hearted deceit and saucy double meanings. At the same time her best friend, Constance, is pursuing her own marriage dream with Hastings, Marlow's companion.... As the play goes on, the pair's merry adventures are surrounded by increasing mayhem. The noise is coming from the unpredictable and outrageous Tony Lumpkin. At first, he seems to be a spoilt mama's boy of a country squire. But it's his boredom with his mother, Mrs Hardcastle, and her cossetting that drive him on to anarchy and bedlam. Yet it is Tony who brings everyone together at the end. In between all the revelling, the ladies let their own hair down with gusto. They flirt unashamedly with their beaux - and the audience! Help comes from a (somewhat unbelievable) supine older generation of men, led by Mr Hardcastle. So eventually Lumpkin's manoeuvring, coupled with the ladies’ directly expressed, and occasionally immodest, wishes means success for all parties. The production is intended to conjure up a mythical '1950s', a golden age which never existed, using the rose-tinted spectacles favoured in a lot of today's period drama. Fashion then was dominated by Dior's outrageous 'New Look' (women wearing it were attacked in Paris streets in 1948). So for this production, the ladies will get their chance to wear some fabulous frocks. Yet at the same time they'll be smart, and in control. The men, meanwhile, can have loads of fun slotting themselves into a 'pipe dream' (!) where Harry Enfield's Mr Cholmondley Warner holds forth endlessly. The idea is to evoke a kind of golden sunlit paradise. So if you would enjoy dressing up in 50s costumes, or even if you think you might, come along and audition to be a part of Kate and Constance's mating strategies. Merry mix-ups leading to chaos, racy dialogue and sly satire are the order of the day. It's a barrel of laffs from start to finish.
Roles
Ladies Kate Hardcastle Daughter of Mrs and Mr Hardcastle. Vivacious, charming, bubbly and witty. Age: 18. Actor's age: 20 – 40 Constance Neville Sophisticated and assured, slightly older than Kate with a well-established relationship with Hastings Age: 20-odd. Actor's age: 20 – 40 Pimple, the maid As daft as her name suggests, she identifies with Kate entirely for the short time she is on stage. Any age below 50. Mrs Hardcastle A foolish woman for whom country living is a bore. Everything 'French' excites her. Dotes on her son, Lumpkin. Age 45+ Gentlemen Mr Charles Marlow Would-be rake, snobbish, yet bashful, paralysed by his demons. He is redeemed by Kate, who stoops to conquer him. Playing age: 20s. Actor's age: 20 – 40 Mr George Hastings Distinguished old family name, confident character. In love with Constance. Playing age as for Marlow. Actor's age: 20 - 40 'Squire' Tony Lumpkin Rhymes with bumpkin, which he is not. Quick witted spirit of anarchy, spoilt rotten by his mother. Mischievous, energetic and unruly, yet he is the hero. Ages as for Marlow/Hastings (disputed in the text) Mr Hardcastle 'John Bull' figure. Generous, open handed, affectionate, but can be pompous. Detests 'France'. Age: 40 – 60 Sir Charles Marlow Aristocrat father to young Marlow. Age: 40 – 60 Landlord / Diggory Shabby Fellow 1 / Roger Shabby fellow 2 / Sir Charles Extras – some (very bad!) pub singing involved Shabby fellow 3 / Servant Shabby fellow 4 / Servant

Auditions: Sunday 10th May at 3pm Wednesday 13th May at 8pm Both to be held in Ken’s Place (Youth room in barn) Performance dates: 17th - 24th October 2015
Maugham’s beautifully crafted play has much in common with J. B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls, in the sense that it uses the basic conceit of a middle-class family gathered together at home to explore the state of the nation - in this case the “land fit for heroes to live in” - to quote Lloyd George. It is September 1932, 14 years after the end of the Great War, and the Ardsley family are entertaining their family and friends to some tennis and tea on the terrace. Into this seemingly peaceful setting stride the Cedars - Wilfred, whose wealth buys freedom from convention and his wife, Gwen, whose inane chatter shatters nerves the Ardsleys hadn’t known were exposed. Smothered hopes reawaken while desperate wives, bitter heroes and restless youth combine to make a heady cocktail in this darkly amusing and intriguing drama. Auditions: Tuesday 12th May Thursday 14th May Tuesday 19th May 8pm each day Thursday 21st May Performance: November 12th – 14th at the Towngate Theatre
The Director will be Mike Betteridge “Making Money” by Terry Pratchett (adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs) is the sequel to “Going Postal”, which the Thalians staged in March 2014. It follows the continuing fortunes of ex-conman Moist von Lipwig (aka Albert Spangler), who having successfully revived the ailing Ankh Morpork Post Office, albeit under considerable coercion from Ankh Morpork’s resident tyrant, Lord Vetinari, now finds himself bored with his job, which is running smoothly, without any challenges. Lord Vetinari tries to persuade him to take over the Royal Bank of Ankh-Morpork and the Royal Mint. Moist refuses, but when the current chairwoman, Topsy Lavish, dies, she leaves 50% of the shares in the bank to her dog, Mr Fusspot (who already owns one share of the bank, giving him a majority and making him chairman), and she leaves the dog to Moist. An accompanying letter also informs him that the Assassins Guild would fulfil a contract on Moist if anything unnatural happens to the dog or he does not do as her last will commands… In the Guardian review of “Making Money” they said: “What makes this and all the Discworld stories special, though, is their humanity. Halfway through Making Money, someone is babbling pseudo-religious nonsense about the “last shall be first”. But what about all those “who aren’t first but who aren’t really last, either?” a decent woman asks. “You know, jogging along, doing their best?” These are the people that Pratchett cares about, the ones jogging along, the ones who get taken advantage of by banks and large corporations and bad government. He won’t shirk at making fun of them, but he also loves them and it’s this big-heartedness that makes these novels so smart, so moral, so good.” There are around 50 characters. The main characters are: Moist von Lipwig – Postmaster General and Vince Chairman of the Royal Bank of Ankh-Morpork Adora Bella Dearheart – Fiancee of Moist and manager of the Golem Trust Mr Fusspot – Chairman of the Bank Lord Vetinari – Patrician Mr Mavolio Bent – Chief Cashier of the Bank Cosmo Lavish – A director of the Bank Rev Cribbins – Villain with impressive teeth

Flare Path - Terence Rattigan

Reading - Sunday 29th March 6pm Auditions - Sunday 12th April 6.15pm Performances: 12 -19 March 2016 - Directed by John O'Connell
It is 1942. Film star Peter Kyle arrives at a hotel where a bomber crew have met their wives for the weekend. He hopes to win back Patricia, his ex-girlfriend, who has married a pilot. The evening is interrupted when an urgent raid over Germany is announced, forcing the airmen to take to the skies. Left to ponder her husband's fate, Patricia must also choose a man: does she pick her true love Peter, or her courageous husband who she feels obliged to be with? Subtle and witty, Rattigan's Flare Path is the story of duty, love and hidden fear. It is about coping with the daily prospect of death and how that affects one's view of love. Written by an RAF officer and first performed during WWII, Flare Path promises to whisk you right to the heart of life with the bomber boys.

St. Augustine’s Musical Theatre Company’s female cast for ‘Sister Act’, headed by Loretta Parnell as Deloris van Cartier, has already begun rehearsing hard for what promises to be an exciting and spectacular première production for Solihull in November. We are now putting out an audition call for the male roles in the production, plus one remaining female role. There are six principal male roles to be filled, all of which require strong vocal, good movement ability and good comic timing. We are also still to cast the fantastic role of Sister Mary Patrick, the scatty, larger-than-life nun who is consistently perky, perpetually enthusiastic and easily excitable!
The auditions will be held on Sunday 26 April 2015 at Mill Lodge Primary School, Aqueduct Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 1BT, beginning at 7.00pm. More information about the auditions, including character breakdowns and audition songs can be found on the Current Productions page of our website

Sunday 8th March 2015 @ 3pm
Casting requirements are: Juanita - woman of 50/60 and woman of 30/40 in flashback scenes Mona - woman in 40's and girl in late teens/early 20's Sissy - woman in early 40's and girl in late teens/early 20's Joe - boy in late teens/early 20's Joanne - woman in 40's Stella-May - woman in 40's and girl in late teens/early 20's Edna Louise - woman in 30's and teenager This play is set in a small town dime store in West Texas in the 1970's, the "Disciples of James Dean" gather for their twentieth reunion. Now middle-aged women, they were teenagers when Dean filmed Giant two decades ago in nearby Marfa. One of them, an extra in the film, has a child whom she says was conceived with Dean during the shoot. The ladies' congenial reminiscences mingle with flash backs to their youth (1950's); then the arrival of a stunning but familiar stranger sets off a series of confrontations that smash their delusions and expose bitter disappointments. The play is set in the 1970's but has flashbacks to the 1950's. The enigmatic character of Joanne is an interesting challenge for an actress as she is a transsexual and also the catalyst much of the drama in the play.

Reading – Sunday 8th March 7.30pm Auditions – Sunday 15th March 7.30pm Performances: 16 - 23 January 2016 - Directed by John Howarth
This rarely performed play set in the disused tennis court of a large country house, is an absolute gem. Described by the playwright as ‘a ghost play’, Snake in the Grass is a black comedy and, at the same time a sinister, psychological thriller. Following the death of their tyrannical father, Annabel returns to the family home after twenty years abroad, to be re-united with her sister Miriam. As they get to know each other again, they find themselves haunted by the terrifying ghosts of their past. A must see on a dark and windy night.

Please let us know admin@woodfordplayers.co.uk if you need a slot reserving for you on the 29th.
Season’s Greetings by Sir Alan Ayckbourn introduces us to Christmas at Belinda and Neville’s house and they have invited their family for a traditional Christmas celebration. The guests include: Neville’s exhausted sister Phyllis; her husband Bernard, a doctor whose annual puppet shows are the stuff of legend and terror to both young and old alike; Neville’s friend Eddie and his pregnant wife Pattie; uncle Harvey, a slightly senile retired security guard and a television-addict; Belinda’s unmarried sister, Rachel and Clive, a writer and friend of Rachel. Season’s Greetings is a sometimes black and farcical comedy about a dysfunctional family’ Christmas, set over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in an average English suburban house.

They will also be invited to perform at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon at the end of the tour. CALLING NON-PROFESSIONAL, COMMUNITY AND AMATEUR THEATRE MAKERS: SHAKESPEARE NEEDS YOU! The Mechanicals are probably theatre’s most famous amateur company. The group includes some of Shakespeare’s best-loved characters, such as Bottom, the group’s enthusiastic leading man, and Peter Quince, the company’s long-suffering director. Maybe you have previously been involved in a Citizens Theatre community production or attended our Nightschool acting classes. Maybe you are a member of a Glasgow-based Amateur Dramatic group or have done some acting in the past. If you are over 18, local to Glasgow and would like to get involved, why not read the information pack and fill in the application form for this unique and exciting opportunity?

"What shall we hang - the holly or each other?" It's Christmas 1183 and the Plantagenets are meeting up for a family reunion that puts the "feud" into "feudal". King Henry II of England has commanded his estranged wife, Eleanor of Aquitane, and their three sons, Richard, Geoffrey and John, to spend the festive season with him. However, his mistress, Princess Alais, and her brother, the young King Philip of France, will also be there. Will Henry finally name who is to succeed him on the English throne? Their yuletide celebration soon turns into a black comedy of deceit, betrayal, power games and scorching wit. This is a great play with some fantastic roles for actors to get their teeth into. We also want a small number of ensemble actors to set the scene and provide valuable support. We are hoping to explore a variety of rehearsal techniques and look forward to collaborating with the actors on this. We are holding a workshop on 18 January. These are open auditions.

I'm a happily married woman. Or rather I was until a few weeks ago. This is my whole world and it's enough, or rather it was until a few weeks ago. Your heart dances. The world seems strange and new. You want to laugh and skip and fall forever. . . You are in love. You are in love with the wrong person. Laura, the respectable suburban wife, and Alec, the idealistic, married doctor, meet in a station buffet, fall passionately in love but are doomed never to find fulfilment. David Lean's iconic 1945 movie, Brief Encounter, was written by Noel Coward and was based on one of his one-act plays, Still Life, written a decade earlier. Emma Rice, Artistic Director of Kneehigh Theatre Company, has adapted this timeless tale of joy and heartache for the stage, interspersing the romantic action with nine Coward ditties.

Eclipse Productions

Oliver!
Contact: Hannah Gibson 07793222107 or eclipseproductions@btopenworld.com
Auditions are on Sunday 22nd February Perfformance: Sunday 31st May to Saturday 13th June | Eclipse was launched in 1999, and since then the company has built a strong reputation for its high standards, and ‘award-winning’ productions. We expect ‘Oliver!’ will be no different.
Why Oliver!? you may ask. Aside from being a popular show for cast and audiences alike, this show is perfect for the style of production we are looking to create. This will be an engaging and immediate production, using the whole of the theatre to capture the audience’s imagination and attempt to transport them to Dickensian London. This will be a production that will not only be the musical everyone loves and can clap along to, but emphasise the dirt and grime that Victorian London was known for.
Do bear in mind that ‘Oliver!’ is a show that almost everyone knows and we require a very hardworking ensemble cast, and every person in the show will have plenty to do. We are keeping the cast to a maximum of 30 (including our children), so doubling of parts and we expect it to be demanding. This is a show with many great company numbers and scenes. It will be fantastic to be a part of, so even if you don’t get the principal role you may be after, if you are invited to be in the show, do join us! We promise a great time will be had by ALL!!
So onto Eclipse’s production details:
• Auditions are on Sunday 22nd February with a possibility of another date being added due to demand. Everyone will be notified by email of the team’s decisions by Wednesday 25th February at the latest.
• The show is being performed at The Barn Theatre, Southwick from Wednesday 3rd - Saturday 13th June, with performances at 7:30pm each night and Saturday (and a Sunday) matinees at 2:30pm.
• The show week will run from Get-in on Sunday 31st May through to Get-out after the final performance on Saturday 13th. You may be required any time between these dates.
• Rehearsals will be held in Brighton (venue TBC) unless otherwise advised, on a Sunday (Exact times TBC), and also Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7:30-9:30pm) (Exact evenings and timings may change, but we will discuss this in your auditions)
• At the moment rehearsals are expected to start on the 1st March.
• If you are cast, there is a £50 show fee, which will be due as soon as we begin rehearsals. This fee is key to helping with the overall budget, our costumes and general show costs, and ensures you are covered under the company insurance. Failure to pay your show fee once cast, may result in you being asked to leave the show.
• If you are cast, there will be a £10 script/score hire fee. This, like the show fee, will be due as soon as we start rehearsals, in order for you to receive your script and score. Failure to return the script and score at the end of rehearsals will result in a penalty charge of £25, which is the replacement cost.
• If cast, please also be aware that there may be many promotional activities and events we will require you to attend.
Once we receive your completed audition form back, we will send you your audition timing, as well as the relevant dialogue and music so you may prepare for your audition.
So, nothing left to say, other than, thank you for showing an interest in the show and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us and we look forward to seeing you at the auditions!

Ruddigore
Contact: admin@gloc.org
Audition Dates: 24th and 28th February Performance Dates: 3rd June – 6th June 2015 (London); 4th August (Harrogate)
GLOC is a leading London G&S Society, and one of the only amateur operatic societies both to rehearse and perform in Central London. As a result, we attract a membership largely of young professionals who work in the centre of town, together with students attending the city’s universities and colleges. In Summer 2015 we will be performing Ruddigore in central London, and again at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Harrogate. Ruddigore is a burlesque of Victorian melodrama, satirising the predilection of the time for exaggerated stories about wicked Dukes and innocent maidens. The Bad Baronet of Ruddigore is under a curse which forces him to commit an evil act each day or die horribly. Robin Oakapple, a blameless young farmer, is in love with the beautiful Rose Maybud but is too shy to declare himself. However, he harbours a terrible secret… he is the rightful Baronet of Ruddigore, but having faked his own death to escape the curse has left his younger brother Despard to assume the title… We do not audition for chorus members. All are welcome – just come along! Auditions for principal parts will take place on: - Tuesday 24 February (7pm - 10pm), 55 Broadway, St James Park - Saturday 28 February (10am - 2pm), St Gabriel’s Halls, Pimlico Each audition will take no more than 10 minutes and will consist of: a song, some dialogue, and an interview with a casting panel. You are not required to have learnt the piece and be “off-book” for the audition and are welcome to sing/read from the music/script. If you wish to be considered for more than one part, please indicate this on the audition form; however you will only be able to do one audition slot. There is a £10 audition fee; please bring £10 along with you on the day of the audition. If you do join the production, this audition fee is then deducted from your membership fee (so for those who continue in a chorus or principal role, there is no additional cost for auditioning).
